Today we took the 6x6 shopping. Coming home noticed the 100 litre tank nearly on empty. 430 0dd kays. Opened the ballvalve to gravity feed from the second tank, next thing it burps a bit and as I pull over it stalls. OK I left it too late it got some air in. Open bleed on final filter, nothing, think the worst , lift pump, but check primary filter glass bowl. Black looking fuel.
Now all my diesels , The 110 Isuzu bonnet, the 110 Isuzu Forward , the 2 1/4 fire truck, and this one all have a sedimenter by the tank and two Lucas 296 ,s in CAV housings. The first filter had blocked, loosened the bleed and drain and the escaping fuel flushed the filter enough to get home. My fault , I hadnt drained the sedimenter for about 10,000 kays.
I use Lucas 296,s rated at 5 microns, the first filter had stopped the lot. Put my last new filter element as the final , and the final went first. Rang around for new Lucas and most of the salesmen at the auto parts stores didnt know what microns were, and did not stock Lucas. The Hydraulic shop had Donaldson at 20 microns, but eventually found Lucas at a Diesel service workshop.
If stuck ,could put other brand first to take out lumps, but keep the Lucas as Final.
Anyone know of any other brands filter to 5 microns?
I would rather have the truck stop with a blocked filter than suck crap through the pump.
