Gearbox upgrade/changeover?

Hi, I wonder if it is possible to put a newer model Discovery 5sp Manual gearbox in a 92, 3.5 ltr V8 manual 2 door Discovery. If so, which year/Model and what is a fair price for the Gearbox alone.

I would think your current box would be a LT77 (reverse is next to first) which was discontinued when the R380 came out with the 300TDi in 1994/5. Now I know there were a few issues with the LT77 gearbox, and if they were replaced under warranty, Land Rover retrofitted the later R380 to the 200TDi.

So I would assume the R380 box will fit in the floorpan of your disco, and the bellhousing for the V8 R380 will mate up to your V8.

The only thing I'm unsure about is how the gearbox mounts to the chassis. The LT77 sits in a vee shape mount on a crossmember, and I'm unsure how the R380 mounts. I'm sure one of the guru's on her will be able to help

In a nutshell if you get a R380 from a post 94 disco, it should fit in relatively easily.
