Have been chasing a clunking sound recently and have found that this thing with the weights on it attached to the rear diff is loose. The attachment bolts are tight but the holes in the bracket have become elongated allowing movement.

What is it... some sort of counterweight?

Thanks.

Vibration damper.

Take it off and see if it is any better.

It's a bloody weighty thing to have drop off! There is a safety cable connecting it to the chassis but it doesn't look too substantial. I've tightened the bolts up for now and will take it off if it works loose again.
