Hi,

My 1990 RRC currently has the R12 gas (well thats what the compresor says anyway!)

Is it expensive to get it re-filled with the new gas?

Mine does go, compressor engages but just not that cold, is a re-gas what it needs?

It sounds like it might need a regas. I have just had mine done, but I don't know a cost yet. Mine is using R134 gas.

Hi Jon. Is it a simple case of getting it re-filled with the new gas or do some items need to be replaced to be compatible with the new gas?

An A/C specialist will know, but I think it is just a case of flushing the system, then regassing.

Mine was already on the new gas from a previous compressor replacement. I had to get it regassed because I am now running a serpentine belt 3.9, so it is another different compressor. I will be picking it up in about a weeks time, hopefully it is all working well.

If it was an R12 system, then you'll get better performance refilling it with a hydrocarbon refrigerant than with R134a.

Well my 92 works perfectly since gas change to R134A 2 years ago or so.

You will need a new receiver dryer , new valves and a flush and refill.AFAIR it cost about $240.

They now have oils compatable with the old oil.

The guy who did mine said that no need to change Tx valve and hoses and so far so good.
I should qualify by stating that my fans died and the head pressure increased which spat out enough gas to need a regas recently. It still worked in 40C heat in FNQ and NT but now is terrific with the new fans.
