Hi.
I think now would be a good time to introduce myself.
I am the successful bidder of the Landrover being discussed.
I have been occasionally browsing this site for a few months. On 30th November, I found the original thread concerning this 101 posted by Ellard, so I joined and asked for further information which was subsequently posted for all.
Ellard, I owe you a bottle of wine or a slab. What do you drink?
The information was available to all. clean32, I didn't need friends.
I contacted the agent, registered as a bidder and advised him the exorbitant figure I was prepared to bid up to. So simple.
I won it. What have I done? What will I do with it?
Well, clean32, I hope I do do the right thing with it.
First I'll join REMLR. Pheonix, I'll send you the chassis no. and other details at a later date.
Then I'll join the 101 club.
Then I'll then probably need help in sourcing some parts such as a grille, canvas and possibly a tub, hoops, sides, spare wheel, clutch and brake fluid reservoirs, etc.
Oh, and a lick of paint.
I might meet up with a few of you on trips.
Feel free to contact me with advice, suggestions or personal abuse. Whichever you feel appropriate.
Finally, I'd like to thank everyone for such a popular, informative and vast forum.
regards
Mick

Welcome - and a good buy. Before you do anything you need to decide what to you want to achieve. A camper, a good runner, a good runner back to army specs, or something really swish. Afterall why remove that body if you were going the camper route.
Likewise if you want to use the truck - then there is little point in doing a full restoration that will take years.
There is really only one business that sells 101 bits in Australia though many individuals may also sell them. Start with Anthony Johnson at British 4wd Imports in Melbourne Land Rover 101 - British 4wd Imports - Home Page (http://101spares.com/) Don't go by the list of spares on the site - give him a ring as you never know what he has in stock. I have bought a hood, hood sticks, brake drums and numerous other parts from him. Pricing seems to be quite reasonable. Unfortunately the main parts that are compatible with other Landies is the engine and gearbox/transfer - most of the rest is unique and not normally carried by other land rover suppliers in Australia. Brakes are basically 6 cylinder LWB series 3 brakes but the mastercylinder is unique but a series 3 version can be modified with bits from the 101 club.
The 101 club in the UK is OK but they can be a bit slow with parts - but they do have a good parts list - shipping from any UK source can be expensive.
We have a few people on AULRO with 101s so there is always someone willing to provide help and assistance.
Good luck with it.
