Stay well clear of Davies Craig for a start.
It really depends on what you want to do with them.

Do a search on thermo fans and you will find a wealth of info here.

I have a post on my conversion and there are others who swear by the EL-BA Falcon units also.

Ditto on that ...
I started with 2x elcheapo Thermo fans bolted up on a Ali framework to form a cowling ... installed a mechanical / ajustable temp switch setup in the top radiator hose .... Verdict was that it wasn't overly efficent and the mechanical switch failed at a most "inopportune moment" :eek:

I ripped it all out & went back to the viscous fan for a while ;)

Had a look at Andrews setup .... :angel:
Then had a shot at it, using the "Ford twin fans" and utilised a different switch method .... NOW IT WORKS ..... :D

IMHO and from what I have heard the genuines are much better.
BUT apparently you pay a lot unless second hand and EAs are getting old now.

I have just fitted new fans to the front of my aircon condenser. I fitted an old Davies Craig 12" that I had under the house but I knew had only been used a short time and a new Supercheap Calibre 10" that cost about $70-80.

Subjectively the Calibre blows lots harder than the old DC and seems really good. I guess the test will be time but you could buy 3-4 for the price of an expensive fan and be ahead.

So its horses for courses. At the moment I am for Calibre as you never know with a 4wd when you will go through water and kill them anyway.

I used The Genuine Ford ... Ripped them straight out of a EL, complete with all of the wiring harness & relays
.... I have access to a tow truckers yard .... :angel:

Avoid the fake fakes, stick with genuine fakes. :)

I suppose that time will tell, but the elcheapo supersheep calibre fans have so far proved ok for us ....

Well I believed, in good faith, that the said thermo unit was a genuine fake when I bought it. Certainly no Ford badging on the very impressive carton. A fake fake would have fake Ford badging and last 2 secs IMHO.

One of the fans in my set up has been on all the time for the whole 60,000 k's, the other is on an adjustable temp switch.

And now I remember buying a used Ford C9 isolator switch from the same mob for $25 at the same time.

Ford dealer quoted me $480 odd, and said there were none in the country. :)
