I have a problem with the car stalling and starting again at around 2000rpm (a big miss)

When checking the car for faults it comes up with "crank angle sensor noisey crank" and 2 coolent faults.

Fault codes are
1) coolent temp 04-03
2) coolent temp06-03
3) crank angle noisey crank 19-07

Anyone done a crank angle sensor before??

Any ideas on the coolent faults??

there was also another fault and mine being a manual was a bit strange

4) auto gearbox 24-07:eek:

The 'noisy' crank angle sensor is the only sensor failure issue I have ever had. Happened at about 2.5 yrs old and was swapped out by the dealer under warranty.

I had the check engine light come on at high revs.

Never had it happen since. Its pretty easy to change but a bit fiddly to get at. Its on the drivers side of the bellhousing.

Thanks Pete, I just arranged to get the sensor and replace it, hopefully it solves the miss and it's not the new ECU that's the problem, although it shouldn't be as we have tested it before (this is a re-install ready for the new power upgrade) and it was fine the first time we installed it.

Should only take about 15 mins. Do it with the engine cold though.
I had a similar intermittent fault with mine, particularly if moisture was around.

cheers.

I have had suspected crank angle sensor faults but it turned out it was a small coolant leak from above trickling down on to the sensor and interfering with its operation. Given you have got some coolant temp faults as well, might pay to check out that angle before changing the sensor.

Thanks I will do that this afternoon.

Hi Baz,

Noisy crank signal also happens when battery is low and/or starter is drawing excessive current. I have fixed this intermittent fault code in a Def by replacing the starter that had on numerous occasions been used to move the vehicle up the driveway...:(

Batteries are all good, checked them, as well as the crank sensor this arvo, then pulled the ECU out to put the old one back in to see if it logged the same fault codes, and to my supprise, I found OIL IN THE END OF THE HARNESS:twisted::twisted:

So Thursday, harness, crank angle sensor and rocker cover gasket will be replaced:(

Baz still got your original ECU????
Put it in and I bet they all disappear excluding the crank signal???.
I get all the same including the auto tranny even though its a man flashable ECU and man box.
Ive just replaced the temp sensor(head) made no difference, there is another on the fuel cooler that I will eventually replace.
The fault Im told with the temp is when the 2 sensors are reading different temps,3deg Im my case at operating temp(when Marc at Beechboro 4x4 was checking it via his autologic)
I think the 2 temps and the auto trans are an issue with using the flashable ecu instead of the original.
Mine had "noisy crank signal" already and a new one didnt fix it.Im pretty sure both the oil pressure wire and crank signal enter the loom from the same place, just havent been able to track them as yet.Mine always has had a faulty oil pressure light(only works when wet),Im thinking they could be pinched or similar.
See how you go.

The first time we put the new flashable ECU in, it was fine no faults except for the EGR and auto box faults.

Funny you should mention this though, I have an EMS1 and the oil pressure sender is piggy backed onto the EO pressure switch, the EMS1 has been playing up of late, continually giving readings around 5 to 10 degrees out compared to the Nanocom and really high and erratic oil pressure readings.

Maybe this could be related!!
