Hi guys, I'm looking for a set of Lovells shocks for my Rangie Classic as my 15yr old Konis which have been rebuilt once are pretty buggered.

Shane from Suspension Stuff always seems to have a good name and until a few months ago stocked Lovells (for $440 for the set of 4) though he doesn't seem to like them anymore - apparently had complaints about them being too stiff.

As some of you may have seen he has brought out his own branded "Suspension Stuff" shocks which is probably the real reason. I'm not really keen to try these, particularly without knowing what brand shock he has sourced to use. If they are Dobinson, I'd possibly buy a set.

Though I am pretty keen on the Lovells, which brings me back to my initial question, does anyone know somewhere else I can get Lovells shocks at a decent price?

Cheers.

I just bought a set of Shane's 'suspension stuff' branded shocks for my 'fender recently - I believe from discussions I had with him that they are in fact a Lovell - he's just modified them (making them less stiff, which would correlate with the criticism you mentioned) and painted them yellow (which suited my yellow 'fender to a t)

No complaints from me so far, but then they've only been on for a couple of weeks.

But what are the Lovells? AFAIK Lovells don't manufacture their shocks.

Suspension stuff is still supplying Lovells for Discovery 2's I have just looked at them on their web site.
I also rang them this morning apparently the Lovells are slightly firmer than the Suspension Stuff Shocks.
Both are $440.00 for a set of 4 delivered to Melbourne.

from what ken (ultimate suspension main man) was saying at the expo is that the lovell shocks are made by him, ie ultimate..
ide say shane has just deleted the middle man and gone straight the ultimate.

Thanks for this Phil. I had lunch with Ken a few years ago at an Overlander function. I came away very impressed about his operation to be honest.

Thanks for the replies guys. I've got a set of custom springs from Browns who make the springs for LRA, they are approx 2" lift over std, so my current Konis seem to be borderline length wise when it comes to articulation.

I had looked at the Lovells website and one distributor, All Terrain 4x4, is within a reasonable distance so could be a goer, though I haven't contacted them as of yet.

Interesting comments about the source of Lovells and the Suspension Stuff branded shocks - all good info to know. Think I might contact Shane again for a chat and see what he can do.

If anyone is interested, Suspension Stuff does still sell the Lovells, despite them not being shown on the website.

I spoke to Andrew there who was very helpful and ordered a set of the +2" Lovells which are on their way...

Hi Guys, Shane from Suspension Stuff here.

We have toyed around with shocks but the Suspension Stuff shocks are now silver for the Disco's/Rangie's. Very similar to Lovells except they have an awesome Suspension Stuff sticker.:whistling:

I am not interested in my own brand but I was upsetting some Lovells distributors interstate because of the price I was selling them for. I had to choose between full retail which is about $160 a shock or brand them myself. (Not the first time this has happened and I can understand their point of view)

It is true that Lovells don't make shocks.

We have these Suspension Struff shocks in a couple of different lengths so if you get our flexy coils you can make use of some extra wheel travel.

We do sell lots of other brands of shocks depending on what the customer wants.

Also, I would like to thank all the AULRO members who have supported Suspension Stuff over the years. Since owning an auto Rangie I do have a soft spot for Rangie/Disco's. Not for the Defender though.:p

Since owning the Rangie I have always owned an auto, I understand the importance of longer more level lower trailing arms, appreciate an A-frame or triangulated setup to get rid of the rear panhard rod and strive for a more comfortable ride and appreciated the rust preventive characteristics of oil leaks. Never liked the wiring, AFM etc though.

Thanks Guys.
Shane
