Could someone give me a heads up on exactly where to find the Vin number that's stamped into the chassis ? I'm aware its on the tag in the windscreen - but still need to find the chassis one for the VicRoads man
Manual suggests its on the chassis behind the sway bar mount visible through the right side wheel arch. If its there its very well hidden ....
(and yes and I did search first - a lot - and still don't have a clue)
Thanks

In the RR the Vehicle Identification Number number is usually stamped on the side of the RHS chassis rail (visible from inside the wheelarch) usually infront of the airbag/spring mount but sometimes behind.
At least that is true of the RRc and the Disco 1 and 2, have never looked on a P38 but would imagine they are the same. The UK assembled Series LR had the number also on the RHS front so can't see them changing tradition.

I've been looking all around this area on the chassis rail and still no luck. Been under the car with a torch, through the arch and in the top - still can't find it =/ It'd better be there somewhere or I'm going to have trouble registering it.

It should be where suggested already: the number is stamped on the outside of the chasis rail in the front right hand wheel arch to the rear of the anti-roll bar link.
RAVE also suggests: It may be necessary to remove underseal in order to locate the number. :D

might be easiest to pop off the right-hand front inner wheel arch liner and you should see something like this...

Your VIN should be where the yellow smudge is in the photo above.
Never mind the red box... it was from another thread.

Thanks all, found it at last. It was in the indicated area.... but completely covered/hidden by underdeal - even with the seal scrubbed off its difficult to see unless the torch angle hit it right. It matches up with the plate in the windscreen and the plate in the engine bay so its all good.
I was getting a little concerned as my recent P38 purchase turns out to have a different engine number to what Vicroads have recorded against it, not slightly different either but obviously a very different engine number. I'm not too concerned about that part as there's any number of reasons an engine swap might of occurred or wrong engine number recorded. But the VIN is somewhat more important :) Inspection man should be happy now.

I couldn't find the compliance plates which are normally in the engine bay. Turns out they are on the left hand b-pillar at the bottom. My Vicroads guy was happy with these. Just had a quick look at the engine no. and that was it.
