G'day All,
Long story short I need a horn button ( right hand side) to suit D2. My local dealer wanted to charge me over $200 for the whole assembly including switches etc . As I explained....all I need is the button part....everything else is there. It used to pop out and click back in...now it doesn't. Any help or point in right direction, would be greatly appreciated,
Regards

Had the same problem in my old D2, good luck, could'nt find one for love nor money...best i could find was looking for a wreck, but they would only sell the whole steering wheel obviously.
Was suggested at one point to try the UK, never gor around to that as i sold the car...

I think I've still got one somewhere at home - when mine played up it was fortunately still under warranty and I had the whole assembly replaced at no cost.
I'm up north at the moment - will have a look when I get back to Kal late next week.

I have the whole new harness here with a right hand button left in it...
I paid the $200 from Graeme Coopers
and then chickened out on replacing the whole thing because I have no experience with airbags
so I carefully replaced the left button... :D

Does it just clip in? Never had a problem therefore I've never looked.
If in doubt I'd be disconnectiing the battery if you have to go anywhere near the airbags, but I don't think you'll have to. Been a while since I've driven my D2

it must be acommon thing cause my right button broke to so i threaded a zip tie through to hold it in there, its ugly but it works a treat!!!!https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/10/225.jpg

I think it's pretty common - the guy at Coopers said the whole deal was one of their most requested spare parts (and they won't sell just a button, either).

my fix was simmilar, only i put 3 blobs of sillicon under the button and held it with a zip tie loosley till the sillicon dried then removed the zip tie. it works, but the LHS one is easier for road rage:twisted:

Right one also. I removed the spring & insulated the wire then pushed the button in. Have to remember to hoot with the left & gesticulate with the right.

Been a while since I've driven my D2 yeah it does clip in.....but with mine 2 of the "lips" have broken so it doesnt clip in....just pops out. I now have the horn plate and wire sticking out of the hole.
Can you take the cover of the whole area of the steering wheel easily. Figured if all else fails do a bodge job on the button...ie try and make 2 new "lips" so it will hook in. I don't want to give the cover a good yank and find out I am in a worse situation ;).......being pretty dense with all this stuff as it is :),

Hi,
I bought a hoen switch set recently from L. R. Series - specialists in land rover, land rover series and range rover - gearbox, axle, transmission parts, spares and major units (http://www.lrseries.com/)
for 57.85 pounds which included postage.
Yep, my right one was stuffed too, you only had to wave your hand near it and the horn would sound. So i disconnected it, while I waited for the new one, now just have to fit it.
cheers

Big thanks to Drifter/ John for the horn button....much appreciated. Now does anyone know if you can just take off the cover....or would there be an issue with SRS bag? Looking forward to being "horny" again :D,

Stevo - no worries.
I just used a scalpel blade to slide down beside the button and 'exercise' the clips so the good button popped out of the donor holder. Then it was just a case of carefully popping it into place in the wheel. (I did remove the fuse first to stop any chance of scaring the stuff outta me ;) )
