View Full Version : D3s they're everywhere

Not sure if it's just me, or it's just because I bought one recently, or if it's the area I live in, but there seems to be lot more D3s around these days.

You can't go down to the road without passing a couple, and at school drop off and pick up don't get me started.

Has anyone else noticed an increase in the number D3s cruising the streets?

Hardly surprising...... people are starting to wake up to the fact that for the money there is nothing better out there in the D3's class, and Land Rover have *touch wood* gone a long way to dealing with the reliability issues that have haunted previous vehicles.

I think you see what you drive.

When I had a VW bug, I used to see them all over the place.

Now I see Land Rovers!!

I still have an old Karmann Ghia, and just like the Defender Wave, I wave like mad whenever I see another Karmann.

so sad...... in my old RRC the flash and wave made driving a landy fun........ it started dying out with the advent of the Disco…… soccer mums didn’t return the wave any more….. and has got worse with the D3….. I reckon I could plot a curve showing that the decrease in the wave is directly proportional to the increase in soccer mums (and rich non-LR prats for that matter) driving Discos…..

Agree, I drive a D1 and wave at most other Landys, but I don't think I have ever got a wave back from a D3 and certainly not from a new RRS!

Yep, now that the D4 is out they are all old hat and have been released from captivity in the North Shore of Sydney. Check with your dealer if they come equipped with a peroxide Yummy Mummy as part of the optional equipment.:D

Yesterday, in Roseville (Sydney) I had a guy in a 110 respond to my wave (from my D3).

I was quite chuffed. :)

Yep you have to be proactive in a Disco of any vintage.

I wave to all Landys here (Upper North Shore Sydney) not many responses...but a noteable white D3 in Eastern Rd every morning around 8.00am responds.

I'm a soccer mum (I think ) and I wave (but I don't flash - still trying to remember where the high beams are)!

I LOVE our D3!

There is another White D3 at our school and we always wave to each other.

I didn't know I was allowed to wave at other kinds of Land Rovers though (thought that might be a bit like interbreeding species:p), but now I'm goning to try it, LOL. I love the look of Defenders...so...Sarah Connor-ish:p.

So if anyone is on the northern side of Brissie and sees a white D3, feel free to give me a flash and a wave:).

We used to live in Killara in Sydney so I can imagine the school mums down there might not be so laid back. They'd probably want to know what your net worth was before lifting their Pandora clad wrist. (Only joking, only joking)

OK *slinks away*

Down in my corner of the world (Albany, WA), the most popular landy is a d1/2. Most are white, some are blue and they all seem to come out at the same time (With our white d2, of course.) It must be that we have one of the three dealers in WA Down here.

Yeah....I am a Series IIA and Defender driver, and I have almost completely (not quite completely...but almost) given up ever waving to a Discovery, Rangey or Freelander. I'm not a Series snob...but nobody ever waves back (well, sometimes somebody does in a really old Rangey...).

White D3 - thank you for asking :).

Well I did put the stickers on but I was coming out of the shops one day and there was a guy pulled up behind my Disco in a Series 3, ripping them off the back window and grinding them into the ground :o!

I was so scared I crouched down behind a silver 2002 Holden Barina Equipe watching this all unfold; and I have to confess to being too cowardly to approach the man and ask him "what the heck he thought he was doing". Vandalising my beautiful girl like that! Pffft!

So I have decided it is best to go incognito and I haven't replaced them :(.

My current challenge is to find something to put in the damn cup holders so that they will actually hold a cup of coffee or a travel mug! I want to do this by Christmas before my resident coffee hound (Moby Disco) gets back from Russia where he's working at the moment. What were those English designers thinking??? Do they put pots of tea in there??? Sheesh!

But that's off topic, sorry

Hi Fifi,
Continuing your "off topic" comment re: cup holders, there is now a new design available from your LR parts supplier.

I have to go into AULRO to get a door trimming fixed so I will call in advance and see if they can get me some. Thank you so much for sharing!

Holy Smoke White D3 :o Please tell me your car is meant to be in that ditch?

Bushwanderer I called AULRO Brisbane a couple of days ago to ask about the cup holders and the guy had never heard of them! Anyway, I sent him off to check the spare parts inventory as I have certainly found 2 types for sale since on the web internationally (one certainly won't fit the Disco, but the other one possibly might). So will see what he comes up with.

Given their performance to date (it took over 3 weeks to hear from them about a trim for the door) I suspect they will not be here for Christmas. Nevertheless, at least the process is started ;). Thank you once again.

Try ringing MLR in Melbourne.
In particular ask for Peter Snieg

I am sure he will be able to help you find out the information you require.

Or go on DISCO3.CO.UK - Dedicated to Discovery 3 and LR3 Owners and Enthusiasts (http://www.disco3.co.uk) and order through "the large one". It will be cheaper.
There is a group buy for oz members as well.

Hi Fifi,
I'm sorry, I forgot how thick some parts guys are.

I have pm'd Nick in the UK in order to obtain the part no. However, if you want to get onto the group buy, follow the link suggested by caver.

Hi Fifi,
Nick has been kind enough to advise that the part No. is FWW500160.

I hope that this helps.

Hmm. Maybe a topic for General Chat -- the Etiquette of Land Rover Waving. Clearly it's ok between Defender drivers. But D3 drivers? Hmm, hmm. Of course, any lady driving a D3 who waves at a Defender/Series owner probably won't get a wave back because they'll have driven off the road in shock.

When driving a Defender I do wave at other Defender drivers, except it's not really a wave, it's more of a genteel lifting of a hand in comradely acknowledegment. 'Wave' indicates a bit of an unbecoming exuberance.

As for D3s...it'd have to be clearly modified for offroading before it warranted any form of acknowledgement.

As long as we get a flash in return no worries ;-)

ROFL just saw the last posts on this thread now. Very funny. Maybe I will start a thread about ettiquette (procrastinating on the housework tonight).

Are Defender Drivers really so different to Discover Drivers? What is it?
A Function versus Form thing? Hardcore off roaders versus the softer style off roaders? Is there a certain personality that chooses the different cars?

In my experience quite different owners drive the two cars.

I however own one of each so where that leaves me I don't know, perhaps as a metrosexual with a fistful of spanners.

Anyway what's housework?
