Spotted today in the SMH is this little gem from our very own Spelling Bee Captain.
No bathing
More on creeping Americanism syndrome (Letters, December 11). When I am asked at work where the "bathrooms" are, I happily tell people we don't have any. If they ask for the toilets, I give directions.

Here's a linky.......Avoid tyranny of the majority (http://www.smh.com.au/national/letters/avoid-tyranny-of-the-majority-20091211-kocz.html)
Ron must be happy with our educated lot here or there is just no hope and has moved on

I see I was quoted in Column 8 today, as well.

I assume you are happy to give directions to the water closet, loo or dunny?
I am not so sure you would give directions to the poop chute.
If it was an American asking I suggest it would be polite to answer "No bathrooms, but if you are looking for a toilet then...".

Glad to see Ron's Column 8 contribution the other day didn't go unnoticed. :D

For Americans, I make an exception and do say pretty much what you have typed.
But not for Australians!

The Queen, who drives a Defender, wouldn't say toilet, she'd say lavatory.

According to my house plans its called a WC, then again that perhaps is the room rather than the "part". My good late plumber used to call it the pan.

Ahh, yes, the water closet.
My good late plumber used to call it the pan.
Yes, the beggars are always late and they never ring to apologise!
