Hi everyone,

Well, it is a stressfull time at the moment as Hebe is undergoing some serious surgery :(. I started to make pictures and put down some details. Unfortunately these are only the before and during pictures. The 'after' pictures will come... well after... hopefully in January 2010 some time. I published everything here:

Nice looking page - on it you say there is only one 7 seater 88 in Aust - not quite true - all of the 88 station wagons, like mine are 7 seaters and there are at least 4 or 5 of these still around - like wise there are a number of basic 88s that have the rear seats in them.

It is great you have put this all up for us too see.

I am eager to find someone with original Series I rear benches. I want to get them as well and would like to know what the differences are with a Series II rear benches. And anyone know who has them for sale, or reproduces them? I can only find the UK company which did the 80" ones for the Series I and has the 88" ones for the Series II. They indicated that those would fit but were not accurate reproductions for a Series I.... :(

Oh, and they (trekkers.co.uk) don't export... and refer to John Craddock..

I contacted Rimmer Bros (I think via Bearmach???) by email and they quoted me for front seats for my 1955 S1 - about $600 delivered from memory. End up having mine retrimmed here - I imagine they do other seats too.

So far,... anyone selling rear benches/seats seem only to have the 80" benches or the 88" Series II ones... And they all seem to be produced by www.trakkers.co.uk (http://www.trakkers.co.uk) who don't export themselves.

Hey Shonky, setting up a blog-style website is a dead-set piece of urine. I've used Wordpress (http://www.wordpress.com) software to do one myself and found it suprisingly easy to set up and customise.

To make/get your own website you have to think of the following:

1)
Location, location, location.... Do you want to have a sub-page on an excisting website... or do you want to have your own www.

If you get your own you need to register the website adres (if available)... something like www.shonky-land-rover.com (http://www.shonky-land-rover.com) or .com.au...

2)
Then you need to get a server to host the website. There are plenty of cheap providers out there.

3)
Then you need to make your page or pages. This can be a simple structure using HTML with one page, or you can go nuts and have things like Java script photo galleries, forums, etc.

HTML is the regular coding language to make a page... Some people learned this language and can write it like that. However, there are some What You See is What You Get (WYIWYG) programs/tools for this as well. I use Microsoft Frontpage... a program which looks a little like MS Word and creates the HTML code for you. There are plenty of other programs like that out there.

In fact, you could also make a MS Word document and save it as HTML. However, this is not that great as sometimes your design may end up looking a little differently due to translation differences.

4)
What you created on your computer needs to be uploaded to the server. I advice to use FileZilla for this. Free program with good functionality and easy to understand.

5)
Review your website online and if OK invite people to have a look....

If anyone wants my help with these steps I can assist. I have a server and your own website name and unlimmited (within reason) hosting space would cost you 30 USD per year. Oh also including email addresses for that website. I can only do .COM, .NET, .ORG, and .INFO.

I can get you a lot of free tools automatically installed. However, keep in mind that many of these tools need to be customized to your wishes/design. Sometimes pretty simple, but it is always a new learning process. And that includes Wordpress, which is a Blog software. This is a list of most of the possibilities".

Keep in mind that the above list is mostly open source, freeware. Some of them may be partially free and most do not give much support. If you want to use any of these programs to run on your website you should do some research on them first. I always do..

The Scripts above don't cost you a dime and you can find them by doing a search for them. Most of them are probably on SourceForge.net: Find and Develop Open Source Software (http://sourceforge.net/) The only benefit with me is that it came with my server and if there are any updates these are done automatically. This is good so that you don't have to go through difficult coding language and back up and reinstall databases etc.

Please note that I am not a programmer and just use this for my own websites. I did it by myself and so can you... but if you need some help just PM (Private Message) me.

did you find the right sand colour of choice for the paint job?


Hi Chris,

Unfortunately I didn't have any confirmation on which paint code is correct for 1958 Sand colour.

The paint guys did come up with a mix which they say is similar if not the same... Looks OK to me but hard to tell as I am partially colour blind. :D

I will publish the paint codes I gathered on my page as well. See, if someone out there can confirm one of them as being the correct one for 1958.

It is a bit frustrating because I am trying to get all original parts and want to stay true to originality. And even though I saw the paint, it may turn out a bit different after having been sprayed on and dried.

Maybe see you one of these days...

Yeah I did... Stephens link above is not working. It is missing the last letter of HTML. Here is the link for others colour chart 2 (http://www.stephen.hull.btinternet.co.uk/chart2.html)

And the second link has codes... but none confirmed to be 1958's or to a specific period. Therefore it may be the later military Sand colour. It probably is as the other later colours are there as well. The email form on the website doesn't work... so???

According to James Taylor "Original Land-Rover Series 1" Page 78 The paint code for sand/beige which was used on some export models is ICI PO30-3182. However, he states that this colour match has not been confirmed.(The land rover series 1 club did the research.) Cheers Biloxi

I'm in Darwin mate, the seats were in our S1 when we got it as kids. I'll bang out some more detailed pics for you with mesurements.

Did you see these in the 86 restoration kits from Trakkers

The rear seats are not listed as individual items but they are in this kit. The 86 rear seats will be the same as the 88 seats.

Edit - also Exmoor Trim http://www.exmoortrim.co.uk/index.php?option=com_flippingbook&view=book&id=6&Itemid=89 see page 62 - again 86 but will be the same as an 88.

THE S1 86/88 has got 10 factory drilled holes in the galv. cappings of the tub to accept the rear seats.The 2 elongated holes which are 1000 mm apart are for the bench seats, the other 8 for the individual seats as in swb station wagon.
The seats in the picture are for a 80" or a lwb which takes 2 seats per side.
Same measurements except for length. 80"/107/109 is 840mm,86/88 is1040 mm.
Instructions on how to fit seats are in the 48-58 workshop manual part no.4291.

Hi everyone,

I must thank everyone for their tips here. Very useful. I must admit I have to sit and go through the sizes etc. But great pictures etc. Unfortunately I missed that eBay listing.

In addition I updated my Hebe page a little and moved it to her own website. Still working on it, but it is going to have all the links and resources etc. I even installed a picture gallery etc.

While I was cleaning Hebe from all its wires.... :o I found a surprise underneath. I put some pictures of that. Have a look...

Unfortunately that means... no original shoks... but I can live with that. That and the tarp/hood are the only things not original when she is finished.
