Removing Headrest on D3

I would like to modify the front passenger headrest as my short wife finds it most uncomfortable. There is a nearby upholsterer/motor trimmer who says he can do the job, but it would be handy to know how to remove the headrest or otherwise it might be necessary to take the whole seat out (not that I have investigated how to do that !)
Any advice and/or photos would be appreciated.

You can undo the velcro at the bottom of the headrest and pull some of the stuffing out. If you need to remove the headrest you'll need to cut the side supports.

I have the HSE headrests (with the grab handles on either side). Somewhere on Disco3.co.uk there's a thread on how to remove the headrests and the leather cover. I just took a saw to the foam of the headrest (with leather removed) and skimmed off the front 2cm of foam. With the leather re-installed no one can tell but I can now see the instruments out of the bottom of my bifocals and no more sore neck. The metal support is still in the headrest so it'll still do its job if rear-ended.

Thanks for this post. The headreast is fine for me but my petite (read short) wife does complain about the headrest. I told her to stop being a baby (I'm safe she is not on the forum... ) :p. I now know the perfect Christmas present. Cheap, well meaning and will be appreciated.:angel:

I have now removed all the covering to the headrest. There is a 3 sided plastic cover at the base of each grab handle. This can be levered out carefully and it is easier if you slide it downwards first. Then there is an obvious single bolt with a star type head. Once this is out the grab handles slide outwards horizontally. There is no bolt at the top. The headrest can then be moved upwards by pressing the little clips which are apparently the same as on the second row seats, except these are under the leather rather than above. I have pressed these without actually seeing them. With the headrest raised you can undo the clip underneath and remove the leather cover. There is then a closed cell foam cover that gives the shape. Under that is a shaped styrofoam block that fits the metal part of the headrest. Haven't decided yet exactly what reshaping I will do, but at least I know what changes I am making.

After putting up with the RRS headrest I thought the new models would have some adjustment (like Mercedes has :mad: ) but no, apparently if you're over 6ft then you are outside the design spec for a LR headrest, just put up with it....UNTIL I FOUND THIS POST :D

This morning I gently removed the cover and hacked the foam out making a nice little moulded bit to take the strain off my neck. Gonna try 10mm first then can deepen it if needed.
