I made this bench Vice at TAFE 2-3 month ago , not sure what gauge Mild steel I used :angel: I brought it to work to show a mate of mine ( yes I have friends ):D he seemed to show quite a bit of interest in it , So I handed it over to him and said 'it's yours you can have it'.:o:D
He sent me pictures of it mounted on the workbench inside his Shed and I reckon that vice is made for that spot.:eek::D

Hahaha... :p
No worries, I stir the pot as much as you so no offence taken. ;)
I'll have to find more time to go to TAFE. I tried getting rid of some commitments earlier this year, and then ended up on the club committee... :angel:
So much for winding back. :eek:

True , my work bench in the garare is filled so much with stuff that there are layers of stuff and if I need to getanything at the bottom layer I will have to remove the top 2 layes to removed stuff underneath :D

Very nice work! The welding looks good too.:)

Looks like the long standing exercise for apprentice boilermakers in the Qld. technical education system, and for non-boilies taking welding certificate courses. The screw thread used to be made in small batches by the college machine shops as a capstan/turret lathe exercise.

The Screw Threaded Rod supplied was supposed to be made in the college machine shop in adjacent building , however we got given threaded Rod already bought , the threads on the Rod and captive Nut aren't a match, so the operation of the Bench Vice isn't real Smooth :angel: I was told I could source my own Threaded Rod with a Squarish type of thread from places like Witworths but couldn't be stuffed searching so I used theirs. The Vice still operates okay and is good enough for a Farm shed where it's not getting heavy use out of.:)
Next year , I'll machine all the parts on the milling machine and make my own threaded Rod on capstan/turret lathe. :twisted:

Hi Richard;
There was cutting with Oxy on the cutting bench with a set of guide wheels , I tried to get the lines as straight and accurate as possible so that I didn't have to spend a lot of time with the Angle Grinder and linisher.:angel:
one thing you really have to weary off , is when welding that you don't concentrate a lot of heat in same spot(area)or otherwise it will Buckle.

Can I ask what course you're doing at TAFE. I would like to get into something next year as I'm a total novice with my hands.
