G'Day all

I have re-joined the loyal Landrover ranks with the recent purchase of a 2000 D2 ace+sls TD5 auto @ 195,000K (kilometres, not dollars (not yet, but rapidly working towards it!)

My previous Landy's have included the old series 2 SWB, County (Isuzu 4BDI 5-speed), 2000 Defender TD5, and 2002 Discovery TD5 7 seat.

For various reasons, since 2004 I have owned an older Landcruiser (1998 12ht) and Patrol (1990 TD42).

I have nothing but praise for both of these reliable old diesel sluggers, so call me a turncoat if you wish, tar and feather (or should that be oil and feather) me:p, but here I return to join your long-suffering masochistic ranks.

It was lust at first sight, straight body, nicely preserved skin, good service history, not too much black "war paint" melting under the shiny fascade. All sins of Landrover's past instantly admonished.

In the past 2 weeks of ownership have read all 63 pages of this thread (not sleeping as soundly now) but much better informed as to what preventative maintainance to attend to, and what order to do it. Thanks to all for your valuable contributions.

I figure now that I know the most common D2 problems, it will be my fault totally if I fail to take action, and get stuck out the back of beyond.

So far have replaced road-biased tyres with 5 X Cooper 245/75 R16 S/T 10 ply, faulty starter solenoid plunger, alternator ($1100.00:eek:), done a service and checked all hoses, fluid levels, radiators etc etc.
Next comes a check of the ubiquitous oil pump bolt (waiting on sump gasket). Then fan belt tensioner + bearing, front shaft overhaul, silicone turbo hoses, etc...

It feels so good to be back!;)
