Hi guys,

I have several queries on the data posted. I have base 2.7 D4 on order. The spec. info provided and confirmed by my salesman, lists 18" rims as std. Ordering the new 3.0lt twin turbo, automatically uprates the brake rotor size and as a result, the wheel size to 19". I have been advised that due to the increased rotor size, it is not possible to retrofit the 18" rims to the 3.0lt.( one reason I stayed with the 2.7 ) I would be interested if anyone can confirm that 17" rims can be retro'd to the 18" rim& rotor setup.
Also, does anyone have advice on whether the bullbar & spare wheel carriers used on the D3 will fit the D4. ECB, ARB & TJM have no data on fit or upgrade as yet

Moved this post out of the FAQ thread because it is a question not an addition to the FAQ.

Refer to FAQ - answer yes 17s fit the 2.7.

I suspect bullbars will need some small modification and expect the manufacturers to do that but not as a priority. The rear end is apparently the same so the carriers should fit. Keep asking the manufacturers as they priortise their work based on queries such as this.

A couple of weeks ago ARB was getting in a D4 within a few days to have a look.

There is a thread about the wheel size issue. Gordon found a manufacturer willing to make some 18 inch wheels to fit. About $2000 a set I think?

Hi Guys, I was advised by my local ARB store today, that the bullbar is finally under way for the D4, but is not expected to be released until the beginning of September. ( 3 months away ) They have evidently established that the original D3 design cannot be modded to suit the D4, and this will be a new bar.

Further, the new bar will not cater for those vehicles with front parking sensors. I guess they won't spend the R & D to develop the different bars required for all of the variations available. Unlike the Prado, which if I recall correctly has 3 different bars for sale. Comes down to numbers. ( could be a good project for someone with time & talent, to sucessfully fit the sensors into the new bar )

edit- Sorry should have added that I was also advised that the Safari snorkel for the D4, has not even been looked at yet.

When I spoke with ARB about front parking sensors on the Playdohs (jeez, I love that put down!:BigThumb:) they said that the parking sensor is removed from the vehicles original bumber and re-installed on the ARB bull bar. If you have a look at their photos you can make them out. I presume there'll be a similar config for the D4.

What causes grief, according to the ARB chappie, are things like surround camera systems where cameras are mounted usually in the grille. With the Prado Kakadu if you have a winch fitted it obstructs the camera.

Also, Admiral you got more info out of them than I did regarding delivery time. It was all hush-hush, secret agent stuff when I spoke with them several weeks ago. They wouldn't put me through to the engineers supposedly working on the designs because it was all very secretive (there must be a million companies out there hoping to steal the plans for ARB's Disco4 bullbar :Rolling:) - ASIO eat your heart out, you ain't got nothing on ARB!

Regards,

Ron

I dont understand why they dont have the parking sensors for the D3/4. How hard can it be to drill an extra 4 holes in around the same spot as the sensors were mounted on the factory bar.... or is this oversimplifying things?

My understanding with the Prados is that the bull bar installer removes the sensors from the original bumper and then re-installs them on the ARB bull bar. I would presume there are holes already predrilled in the bull bar for these - perhaps they are fitted off with a plastic cap which can be removed? Anyhow, it is done for Prados so we can only assume it will be for Discos as well given that front sensors are becoming more common.

This fits exactly with what I was told by the new fella in charge at my ARB place yesterday - he rang ARB and was told "bar is still in design phase" and likely delivery is 3 months. The old story I got fed on several occasions over the last few months (by a previous staffer) about my bar being "a few weeks away" was clearly male bovine excreta.

With winter setting in and kangaroo-time coming ever more onto the daily radar I'm going to have to go for a temporary install of the Light Forces.

Hi Guys,
Interesting discussion about the D4 bullbar. I believe ARB are providing 5 variants in the Prado bullbar! I wonder how many will eventually be available for the D4?
I can wait for the bullbar but my more pressing need is for a rear wheel carrier so my spare wheel can make room for an auxiliary fuel tank. The rear wheel carrier clearly needs to have provision for rear parking sensors.
Does anyone have any ideas as to the best rear wheel carrier for the D4? Is it one that replaces the rear bumper altogether or one that simply bolts on to the rear chassis perhaps?
I would be grateful for some advice.
Cheers
George

Hi George,
Have a look at the FAQ'a at the head of the D3/D4 channel. There a quite a few options for in bumper spare wheel carriers. Kaymar have a full bumper replacement which I am pretty sure caters for the reversing sensors. You can put two spares on or jerrycans etc. Mind you it does cost, and there is a weight penalty to keep in mind too.

The in bumber jobbies bolt through the bumper into the chassis , and are stacks lighter, and cheaper. Have a look at the FAQ detail, then Google the different types for pics and detail. Then if you want more detail on forum member's actual experience of the different types, do a search, or if that fails, post a query asking for data on a specific type.

I have just fitted a LongRanger Aux. tank, and I will be fitting an in bumper wheel carrier as soon as it arrives.
