Worked with a guy who had one of these back in the 80's.

All fibreglass, it had been left out in the sun too long and looked like an old surfboard - made me want to get out the wax..

His had a Ford Escort motor (1600?). (I think they had a VW version too)

Crashed into the rear of a commodore and cut a perfect whole in the nose from the commodore exhaust pipe.. :lol2: Just like a scone cutter.:Rolling:

The whole roof section raised up to get in and out. (Well it was meant to). This friend got to work only to find he couldn't get out. Windows are screwed shut too....:Rolling:

He managed to squeeze a screw driver out to the security guy who took 20 mins to take the window out. :Rolling::Rolling:

What a crap car. :lol2::D:p

I saw one of those on carsales a while ago, for like 200k I think. That was the first time I ever heard of them, and saw the roof raised.

Remember Bolwell?.....started off the same way in the 60's with kit car fiberglass body, number of engines including big ones like 351 V8 etc.....they put out a few different types of bodies and apparently had another go at marketing them in the last few years. Victorian company started by 3 brothers.

Cheers

As I've said before ( http://www.aulro.com/afvb/general-chat/48011-why-did-you-choose.html#post654300 ) it was the Bolwell Nagari that got me into Land Rovers, more particularly a Range Rover.

Sleepy do not laugh too loud, both the Purvis and Bolwell's are becoming the collectors item. Custom Kit car magazine (the Australian version) has had a couple of write ups on these. I do like the look at the Bolwell and I do believe that they are looking at producing them again but it will not be in a kit - sold as turn key only.

As a high jack to this thread Custom Kit Car magazine is an Aussie magazine, written out of Adelaide. Due to the politics of the newsagents and printers you can only get a subscription through their web site, plus down load individual articles for a fee. It has only been in print for about 2 years and is a high quality magazine and I highly recommend it. The tech articles are simple and too the point. I am not involved with the magazine in any way except as a subscriber.

sigh.... if I had the space in our backyard there'd be a Eureka out there getting built right now. I've loved these since I was a kid, and found one locally that would have been a great restoration job. Unfortunately, we needed a 'running' car and didn't have the luxury for a project. So we bought the Defender instead :D No complaints!

But still... I had a close look at a few. Some solid examples are going for $20-$30k, which is a lot for a fibreglass kit on a VW shell, but yes, they are becoming rare. Examples that are a bit rough do exist and would be great backyard projects. Some parts are hard to source (such as windscreens), but still a lot of fun. Some are appearing with rotary engines or even out of an Alfa. The hardest part it appears is getting the buggers registered if you don't have a good registration history on the car.

As for the Bolwell, yep, they are building a new Nagari. Saw it at a car show recently along with a lot of old examples. Turnkey only, with a V6 toyota engine. A bit funny looking from some angles, but very modern, very nice.

Always loved the Bolwells especially the Nagari , i think the Mark VII was available as a kit but the Nagari was fully assembled. Saw a beautiful roadster at Winton with an EFI 351 Cleveland - drool.
Used to like the Eureka too but the dak dak motor wasnt very inspiring, chuck in a WRX motor and it would go.

Yes, it was. A friend had a partially assembled one that I was going to buy but my wife thought I'd never finish it. Probably right.

From memory it was a holden chassis with red 6, i remember as a teenager helping a lady at a local shopping center with one that was overheating badly.

Yes not trying to upset anyone:angel: - I am sure there are lovely examples out there. I think a worked VW engine would go nicely.
Although for chisel nosed 70's-ness you cant go by the Lotus or Lambo.

sorry for hijacking this thread,

IMHO the best hybrid car, (although not in kit car form, however i think they can be built as a kit now) is the Detomaso Pantera

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/12/401.jpg

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

Italian Supercar with an Australian 351 cu Cleveland V8. When Ford Aust, stopped fitting the 351's to the falcons (1982 XE ESP had the last 351 fitted), ford continued building the pillow block (nascar spec) 351 cleveland and were fitting them to the panteras

this is one car i would definately own if i won the lottery

Went round my Brother in laws place a few years ago and he had one belonging to a mate that he was doing some fibreglass work on. Pretty sure he said it was based on a Torana. Clutch felt like it was out of a one-tonner ute.

Going back to the original thread, I know the Eureka as my brother used to own one

Now I remember, pretty falsh looking thing for its day, BUT, under the gloss red was a standard VW chassis and running grear.. so that meant drum brakes :o

Mind you, it had the best exhaust system, made the VW engine sound like a V8... seriously.

They had a full chassis and the one i saw had a 1 tonner chassis i think.
