Hi Guys

Im currently looking for a remote controlled transformer for running my garden and pool lights...

has anyone seen anything like this?

The best result i have so far is a standard transformer hooked up to remote controlled switches. Or a 4 way remote power board.. they are all designed for inside use tho...

there is a company that make a 4way remote transformer but its only about 48va and i need 35 for the pool light alone.

Thanks

Steve

Hi Steve,

So you have a trannie in your yard for lighting that you want to be able to turn on and off from the house without running new cables I'm guessing?

Jaycar used to (can't find it in the catalog at the moment) make a IR remote switching kit for similar applications as this, although it would only switch small loads so a contactor was needed out next to what ever it was you needed switching mounted in a weather proof enclosure.

Think that if you want to keep away from running new cables, indoor type devices are going to be your best bet (mounted in a suitable enclosure) or could you break up the outdoor and pool circuits separately and use 2 or 3 of the smaller units you mentioned?

Hi Pando

The pool house already has 240v... and the lights are 12vac

it doesn matter if i switch the transformer on the 240v side or the 12v side. if i had a 2/4 channel 12v remote switch then that would be fine also.. as i can use a honking great transformer to power everything and switch the 12vac only.

otherwise just a plain 240v remote switch or powerboard (as i have already seen) could control several transformers.

What i was ideally looking for tho is something that was fully integrated without having to worry about daisy chaining lots of individual items together!

make sense? :)

Thanks

Steve

Yup,

less bits and bobs the better.

Thinking you may have to go with the daisy chain idea though, or wiring mods.

You couldn't post up the info for the remotely switched transformer you mentioned earlier (model and/or manufacturer), you've got me interested now.

Cheers.

you can get one of those over the powelines network controlable switch units for 240v.

altronics had them and some hifi places carry them as well.
