Roof Load Rating Question

Question, I've inherited a boat loader and boat currently on a Nissan Patrol which weighs approximately 90KGs and am wondering as to the weight restrictions on the roof of a Discovery 4. As information passed on by the sales person at Land Rover seems rather low compared to other vehicles (Toyota,Nissan). Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Dave,
The Load limit on the Land Rover Roof is 71.8Kgs. This is using the LR factory rails & cross bars.

Weight limit would be low due to overturning danger. Pysically it will take a lot because it has a monocoque chassis made from hardened steel. (try drilling it) as well as a ladder chassis.
I know some who have had more than the limit on full length roof racks but it is always best to keep weight on the roof down and stick the heavy stuff as low as poss.

The roof load rating is 75kg including any racks, same as most Land Rovers and that's onroad, not off. Toyotas are usually 200kg. However, Land Rover themselves go over the limit on the G4 cars, look at any photo, so I reckon there's a pretty big safety factor in there provided you have the right rack and it's correctly loaded.

Exactly,
Not everyone adjusts their driving to suit conditions let alone the ability of themselves or the vehicle.
I think LR set their load rating with that assumption.
