There are lots of guys doing this now. I choose this video to link because it's very well recorded. Hit the HD and fullscreen buttons and enjoy :)

loved it , fantastic to do in models, impossible to do in full scale though

Cool, a remote control brushcutter, great for blackberries in the high country gullies.

it looked real to me.

The real thing was maintaining positive G during most of that - there are helos that can do full on aerobatics but not like the models. If there was the demand I am sure real helos could be built to do similar stuff to the models - the main limitations would be the G forces able to be sustained by the pilot. The jerky and rapid changes of directions that models can do could not be done by piloted real helos.

Excellent stunts, shame the camera man is on speed !

Awesome,
How does he get lift upside down. Has he got reverse thrust on the rotor or something?

Hi,
it must be the devil in me, but can you imagine the panic if something like that buzzed a presidential motorcade or some impressive VIP occasion.
How could you swat something down that is so agile?
I guess they would just jam all frequencies for a few seconds or so till it crashed.
cheers

We talking the model or the real thing? - certainly the model can turn the blades so that you get reverse thrust - hence why it can fly upside down.

Nothing changes... everything keeps spinning the same way, they just allow the pitch on the blades to go negative. :)

One little note on these choppers is that they use heading hold gyros to control the tail rotor. This means as you add or reduce collective it senses the chopper trying to twist and changes the pitch on the tail rotor to compensate. From an remote control perspective this makes the plane much easier to fly. :)

Austastar - youi're a man after my own heart - wouldn't that be funny!!!!!! could follow on from the Chasers when they did the G20 stunt with the limo - hahhhahaha - good idea young man!
btw - I've got a simulator for my pc that does all the planes, gliders and choppers and I tell ya - that guy is good, REAL GOOD. You just try hovering for a minute or two. Those performance choppers are so twitchy.

Thats great control.
Electric helis have totally revolutionised the hobby.
I have a couple and here is a link of my scale A109 Agusta.

Nice looking helo - I assume it is not 3D capable or is it like me that the pilot is not 3D capable:o. I like flying these things but am not very good and do not have the hand eye coordination to do anything other than take off basic flight and landings (sometimes without crashing).

On my coffee table I have a smashed Honey Bee King 3 waiting for some head parts, new blades, new tail boom, balance bar and rear stabilizer - thankfully it was not me that crashed it but I have to buy the parts . It suffered a boom strike when hovering about 1" off the ground after one of the arms holding the training balls came off and the helo tilted forward - in correcting the rotors hit the boom and then it tried to thrash itself to death. I am surprised we got off so likely with damage.

Cheers

Hi,

I bought an R/c heli that looks identical to the one in the vid. Only flown it a few times and can just get it to sorta hover. :)

The models might be able to do a lot of the things a real one can't, except for this:

Maybe that's why seppo beer is substandard. :)

Just had a look at my RC heli and it's not quite the same as the one in the vid.

Flamin' heck! My flying was like some of that - usually into the ground! :D

Things have changed since I used to fly back in the Eighties. If we'd seen that at the Australian Champs when I was a judge, we wouldn't have believed it.

I still have my choppers (about 6 or so) including an Hirobo UH1 Huey I must restore and fly once more.

Do you know a mate of mine, Murray Scott? I used to write for his R/C magazine back in the Eighties. He still flys model helis.

Brilliant, a non PC pc.

Long time ago in a land far away called high school, we could buy tubes of a clear gelatinous goo called plazballoon. You could, with a straw, blow air into a glob of this goo and form a large bubble like balloon.
Before the morning assembly, we inflated one in the chemistry lab, using the lab piped coal gas (lighter than air), and carefully ushered this into the back of the assembly hall and released it during the opening hymn.
The breeze swept it forward and it rose over the audience in all its majesty, capturing the attention of every student in the hall.
Chaos was assured as pens, pencils, chalk, books etc were thrown at it, and much collective huffing from students kept it aloft for about 10 minutes before it had leaked enough gas to loose its lift.
Total pandemonium.
Great stuff.
It was eventually swatted down in a similar fashion to the pc, and with similar disdain.
Some people just don't see the fun in life.
cheers
