Hi,

I am new to Land Rover and to Defenders but I am pretty keen on picking one up. I have viewed the vehicle and taken for a test drive but without knowing what to compare it to it is difficult to ascertain where it sits.

The ute is a 1997 130 with the 300Tdi that has 273k kms on the clock for an asking price of $10k.

The seller has had the 130 since 2000 and has had it serviced every 10k kms, with records. The timing belt, clutch, injector pump and injectors were all recently replaced. It has driving lights, snorkel, dual batteries, long range tank, and an ARB bullbar but w/o a winch installed. I have been reading up on here regarding the common problem areas and will keep these in mind when I view the ute again. (rust in the bulkhead and around the brake booster, leaks from the steering box and vaccuum pump, etc..)

I will have the ute inspected by a specialist prior to purchasing but is the asking price in the ballpark and anything else to check on?

Cheers, Bill.

Price appears ok if you don't need to spend anything on it.

Somthing is only worth what some-one is willing to spend on it.

I think its fair, just watch out, a Landie is a disease and there is no known cure.

I was actually thinking price seems very good.. it would not doubt be higher for a crew cab one.

10,000 with all that done to it in Perth? I'd actually say it was on the cheap side. When I was looking the 110 utes cost that much - and they were the ones that had something to fix on them. Personal opinion? Seems to be a very good deal.

Most of the east coast crew cabs can go anywhere from $12k to $18k depending on year and milage, look on the trading post and compare price, I think it must have something wrong with it if it's only $10k but you never know till you get it checked out and it might be the sale of the century. good luck

G'day,

I think that's not a bad price if it's ok. I have just paid significantly more for my extra cab although these are quite rare and it had relatively low kms.

If your ute is in good condition then the price is quite ok.

Cheers.

Thanks very much for your advice! The above vehicle did sell to someone from QLD for $9k. I have managed to find a similar 130 trayback that has 214k kms for the same price so I will be picking it up next week.

It is in great mechanical condition but it does need a bit of attention so I look forward to reading about the common problems and fixes on this forum.

Cheers, Bill.
