Hi all,
Just read in the RSS feed that there is a minor problem with the transfer case leaking oil onto the parking brake.Apparently caused by a loose flange nut on the output of the transfer box allowing oil to migrate onto the brake shoes.

LR will be writing to you...........:D

Cheers

Already had that happen on mine last year. Interestingly they told me they didn't re-shoe the handbrake which I thought they would after having it drenched in oil. Seems to still hold OK though. Knowing the brilliantly co-ordinated system LRA operate I expect I will still get a recall notice.:bangin:

You'd think 2 new brake shoes would be fitted if the old ones were oily

Wait until someone has a handbrake failure because of the oily shoes..... I can see a lot of lawyers getting involved!

Would have thought that if they'd been soaked in oil for a number of months, it'd be well impregnated and you'd never be able to get it out. No experience though, so maybe they can be rinsed clean of the oil

I clean the ones that have minor contamination, but those that have had long term soaking are usually coming apart too, so they get tossed.

Brake Clean or any other brake shoe cleaner is fine, DO NOT use petrol or any highly flammable solvent, for obvious reasons:D
