I did a search on this, but couldn't find any clues.
My speedo decided to stop today. It occasionally works for a few seconds then stops again. I pulled the wiring harness of at the speedo sender (transfer case ), the terminals and wiring look ok.
It is a 98 300TDI auto.
Has anyone any had this problem? any clues?
Thanks
Andy.

My guess would be on the sender unit. A faulty alternator might effect the tacho but I can't see it effecting the speedo unless it has huge power fluctuations. Which would effect all sorts of other things on the car.

Thanks for the advise!
I will try a new transponder on monday and let you know the result.
