Hi all,
Just wanted to give anyone who runs wider than standard tyres a heads up on a potential problem. I run Cooper LTZ 285s on standard rims. I suffered a major problem the other week where a number of warning lights were coming on.
Aside from a couple of sensor failures, the major issue was a problem with the wiring loom. Where the loom passes along the left hand frame rail (look in the left front wheel well) it is held be a fairly flimsy plastic bracket. My loom had come away from the bracket, and was swinging about. Consequently when on full lock it was being rubbed by the tyre, and eventually wore through the conduit and the wire sheaths.
Dealer fixed the wiring under warranty, and applied a couple of zip ties to stop the loom comin away from the bracket.
Can I suggest if you run wider tyres that you apply a couple of zip ties now to prevent the problem, or at least check on a regular basis that the loom has not come out of the bracket.
I cannot state that the same issue would not have arisen with standard width tyres as I am not sure how far out the loom can swing when out of the bracket as it was fixed before I could view it.
Remember, prevention is better than cure.
Cheers,
