G'day
was wondering if any one knows if there is an aftermarket fuel filter guard for the disco 2 especially the early D2's like mine which have the water sensor hanging out the bottom of the filter, i am always wondering when i stray gibber rock is gonna take the whole thing out so any feedback is appreciated thank you.

I've seen a few home made ones on here, do a search:)
Best one I think was the plastic water pipe.
And as a side issue I always carry a bolt(with a rubber and flat washer) as a back up incase it does break.

Thanks to LandyAndy I copied this for you from another thread.
"Hey Easo
Its a M10 thread, just checked a spare filter in the shed. And the good news is it comes with a drain to replace the factory version.
Its a genuine Mahle filter from Karcraft."

Hey, I like the stubby holder version...that way you are never short of a stubby holder!

Look at this link for other versions.

Well after reading this topic a looooong time ago, it has always "played" on my mind, I must admit I thought it would be unlikely to happen, but why take the risk.........? so I added this to min today.

Made from 2mm steel and painted black.

The backplate after a "little" modifcation goes behind the filter and bolts directly to the original mounting points between the filter housing and the chassis welded bracket, it also has 2 clips to hold the sensor loom.

Then the front plate has 3 locating pegs which sit in holes in the backplate to simply "Line it" up and hold it in position, then you simply do up the single zeus fastner by hand to fix it in place. Can be removed and fitted in seconds and also provides some protection to the pipes on the housing as well.

pretty good hey and I never even had to make it!!!......just a few "mods" to fit it. ;)

This looks like one of the best solutions to this 'problem'. Definitely looks sturdy enough to last.
Did you make this yourself, have it made by a fabricator or are these being manufactured by someone for this purpose?

Top Marks Erich!!! https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2011/06/1511.jpg

Why they never fitted the D2 with them who knows. Never knew the Defender had them till I had a close look round one, saw it and thought "thats gotta fit mine".........ordered one and hey presto :)

You could just get rid of the plug all together (which is what LR did with the D2a)

The plastic plug can still break, ours did on a bitumen road - no rocks!

on of the first thinges we did when getting back to town was to look at a 110 Puma and there is a guard there, have just learnt that the TD5 defer has one and so will investigate that.

the Disco fund is a bit short at the moment how ever, maybe in a few months

an idea that I had to protect it was to use and old bit of innter tube of similar size and put that around it with some zip ties.

I like the stubby holder idea as well, will probably do that in the short term

that plasitc plug is around $14 and a new filter $115
Repco had a sale on the weekend, I got a Ryco for $86 or there abouts, the normal price is $113

Same here .... loom's been tucked up above the chassis rail. Plastic connector plug is still in the bottom of the fuel filter, it's just not connected to anything.

Same same. 04/2004 Classic country 5spd. Mine never had any type of electrical conection or sensor on it just a plain white plastic plug.
