View Full Version : Vehicle inspection, non LR, Sydney?

Hi all

I was wondering if anyone can recommend a workshop OR a mobile service to inspect a vehicle for me. This one:angel:; 2000 Lexus LS430 UCF30R Burgundy 5sp A Sedan - eBay, Passenger Vehicles, Cars, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 27-Jan-10 19:35:21 AEDST) (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130334003206&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT)

Don't think much of the wheels, but I am concerned as to why it seems quite a bit cheaper than others. I spoke to one of the salesman who sounds the quintessential Sydney car salesman, so I would like a truly independent assessment, with particular attention to body/ accident repairs.

Thanks,

JC

Hi Justin, sorry i am buisy in the next week so i cannot check it for you. What has got me worried though, as the name of the company is sydney city prestige. Although i have never heard of them, it sounds like a combination of 4wd city sydney and Wakim prestige (who i think have a shop in artarmon aswell). Both these companys are also owned by Wakim motors and 3wj and i assume you know the stories from here.

There is a place on the net that you can pay for a wovr certificate, which includes all states of australia, as sometimes a car can be smashed in perth and brought over to sydney, not on the written off register (i know of several first hand cases).

Another thing to do over the phone is to find out from the log book where it was first sold (if it was perth......) and if it has ever been out of rego (the plates are not a recent issue, so this seems ok). Mabe even fax/email a copy of the service pages in the logbook to see for gaps or long periods with very low kms.

Hope this helps, I Like that model but i prefer the 7 series. Andy

ps do lexus steering wheels normally wear out after 77000kms?

Where there's smoke there's fire. Proceeding here may not be worth the potential aggro.

Hmmm, my first suspicions were that I needed to get another opinion, and now I think you all are pretty on the money. Apparently it was sold to 'their' panel beater/ body works, who then sold it back to them and there is NO service history OR logbooks...Maybe I'll keep looking then.

Pity, I have been looking for a LS430 for a while to change out the '400,as it is 20 years old next year:o.

Thanks everyone:)

Only one person qualified to make this decision, and he'd better jump on an overnight cheapie from Hobart.

My expereince with vehicle inspectors that aren't marque specialists have been worth about as much as their guarantee.

:DYou're right there Simon! Can't get away now, start back at work tomorrow and we'll no doubt be flat out again:)

Still, if it is available still in a week or so, may have to satisfy my curiosity BUT I'm worried it'll all be for nothing if it is a dodgy one:(

I'm working this Sat but I work not that far from that place......so could still meet up.

I guess it would depend on when your flights are if you were doing there and back in a day

Only too willing to assist a fellow Range Roverian JC but it would most likely prove to be an absolutely pointless exercise which I must reluctantly decline on the grounds that your good lady is probably typical of her species and it would be most unlikely I could get a word in sideways. :D

a few more kms but i would rather have one of these with apparant history

The asking prices are all well above red book values aswell. A bit like defenders and isuzu countys!

I couldnt find any connection between 3wj/4wd city/wakim and the sydney city prestige dealer. (however without log books and such low kms, it does seem shady). If you come to sydney, i'll shout you a beer.

Is your heart set on a lexus? I bought the wife a 2004 Caprice with all the extras (a rear wing, sunroof and satnav) for under 20k. Parts are easier to get, and a bit more power too.

Well, have had 175K of trouble free, silent and safe motoring in the current LS400, so impressed with build quality , Mercedes Benz without the price tag. I guess its difficult to explain adequately here, but I'll be definately getting another.:)
This later model has curtain airbags and parking sensors, heated front and rear seats, rain sensitive wipers bla bla bla. Being Toymota everything works.
You really have to drive one to appreciate the experience:)

Well, since MINE is coming off the road for some major works, and will be then relegated to trip duties, the LSE will be MINE, and the LS430 will be HERS. Until the weekends of course.....
Basically, call it what you like but I think I deserve a 'nice' vehicle now after all these years of hard yakka, and at less than the cost of a new Ford Falcon, I know which one I'd plan to keep for 10 to 15 years:D
Its a lot of car for the $$$$
Will have to sell the current LS400, but thats part of the deal. Can't keep them all:(
(Actually there are a few other reasons why its time to change 2wd family cars, but won't bore you with them:angel:)
