I think I have stumbled on a trigger for the 3 amigoes.
I twice have had 254 intermittent ABS faults in the past with a 3 amigoes apperance after.
Ean Austral just did too,Shuttle Valve.
I tested Tazs D2 the other day as he had the 3 amigoes come and go.254 intermittant shuttle valve faults.
Im wondering if 254 is the trigger point for the 3 amigoes to illuminate???
Anbody else found 254 faults whilst clearing faults???

Yep, use to get it all the time. But Ive not had the guys turn up for three weeks now, (and counting) touch wood.
Im not sure if I got it after the new software loaded. I dont get the wheel speed error.
The other change Ive made, was a complete flush of the brake fluid. I now use "Castrol Brake Fluid Response, super DOT 4. ( I think I might have said before it was dot 5. my bad) I also ran a power bleed with Nanocom. After doing this, the three Amigos would show up less and less.
But back to "254" how many teeth are on the ABS rotors in the hubs ?

Yep! I'm pretty sure I have a dodgey ABS wheel speed sensor cable. FLHS. Pulling up at an intersection, whilst turning/veering left, off she goes. Ding Ding Ding and the 3 Amigoes come visiting. Stop & restart the car and the fault dissapears. I've checked with the Nanocom immediatley this fault happens, and there are NO faults logged in the ABS-SLS ECU.
THEN we'll strike the same situation/conditions to trigger the 3 Amigoes, but FOUR lights come on ... Ding Ding Ding .... stopping & restarting the D2a doesn't clear the fault. Connect the Nanocom and I get an "Intermittant signal front left hand wheel speed sensor 254 times". Takes the Nanocom to read & clear this fault.
Soft Fault - Fault triggered, but resettable by a stop/restart.
Hard Fault - Fault triggered for the 254th time since last clearing the ABS ECU, fault lights register and can only be cleared by an ODB port connection of the required diagnostic equipment (ie; Nanocom, Testbook, etc ...)
I've just changed my front & back disc pads and am getting a little more front brake squeel than before on the old pads (Lucas stamped on the back plate of the old pads) ... which seems to be setting off the 3 Amigoes more often ... same outcome as outlined above. New pads are Transgold Kevlar/Semi-Metallic. They seem to work well, with good stopping power ... but with extra squeel & Amigoes .... time to replace that ABS wheel speed sensor, or find and fix the intermittant cable break.

Hi Fluids, What firmware version are you running on Nanocom ? 2.04v or 2.05v.
There are 60 teeth on the ABS hubs.

its a computer guys. binary counting and storing of numbers.
"The allowable range for N is 0-254 and for the count field it is 0-N"
my guess once the count hits max it triggers the warning lights.

Squeeling brake pads will cause the 3 amegos to appear. After a couple sets of different pads, I put in a set of the LR genuine pads [now made in India]- funny shape, no squeel, no amegos, no 254!! In my case it appears that the resonance in the squeel causes the amegos to appear.

254 is easy enough to explain...
This is what I suspect is happening:
Count of event is stored in an 8-bit address which can hold the values 0 to 255. However there is most likely a control single event in storage which means it never really gets to zero and this reduces the maximum value to 255 - 1 or 254. This could be because the first event logged is the clearing or connection of the unit and so it is ignored.
So once it gets to 254 its full up and thus logs a permanent fault.
There is a second and even more likely reason. Again assuming 8 bit storage with the first bit reserved for a higher purpose. Each time an event occurs a bit is set from 0 to 1. So you go from 00000000 to 11111110 meaning 7 events have been logged. When the 8th event is logged the last bit is set and the 3 lights come on.
If you want I can go into 2's compliment addition and binary shifting which may also explain this, but I suspect you don't want that so I'll go open a Pale Ale instead:beer:

Yessireee ... that squeal/resonance = Vibration, which radiates outwards through all solid parts of the wheel/axle/brake assy ... which by my estimation, causes the ABS sensor wire to vibrate at a high frquency ... causing the break in the ABS cable to vibrate and send a fault off to the 3 Amigoes ! ...
Anyone tried any of the aftermarket anti-squeal products for disc pads ?? Seems they are spray on / paint on ... the back of the pads. Supposed to dampen the disc pad to help prevent vibration .... or are they just smoke & mirrors ?

I was going to try some anti squeal on mine, but Im not getting the 3 amigos any more, so have not touched them. My brakes still squeal, Ive not changed the pads. Only the fluid and bleed them. Im not logging any faults at all now.

I cant comment on the squealing aspect save to say in Sept at a Longreach Property this year I had abad case of squealing all around for days and then the permanent 3 amigos. Never before had a problem. Purchased nanocom to clear and fault which stated FR error. Resistance checked, cleared and do date I cannot get one fault logged in my case and of course by the time back to Brisbane all the squealing had stopped.
So the squealing comment could be right as this is what happened in my case.

I did a full bleed / power flush and replaced all the brake fluid to fresh new stuff ... still squeals! Grrrrrr. :(
New pads might benefit from a chamfer on the leading and trailing edge of the friction surfaces ... according to some Google searching ... AND some anti-squeal for good measure.
So, renewing the brake fluid in my case didn't offer any relief.
Moderate to firm braking doesn't cause squeal ... only light braking at low speeds ... daughter is a "L" plate driver, and is very light on the brakes ... which provides more 3 Amigoes .
"Discovery IIa ... Now with MORE 3 Amigoes!"

I'm a bit new to the D2 still and just got the Holy Nanocom today from Rovacraft. Had the 3As around for a while after experiencing what was pretty dodgy ABS braking coupled with intermittent light shows. With the 3As up permanent (eventually) and no ABS as a result, the D2 actually felt safer I have to say. No more 'scarey' braking.
Anyways, the fault was the LHS bizzo at a count of 254 like reported here. Will see how she plays now all faults are cleared.
Hoo roo.
