Hi all,
We are homeward bound to Brissy from Melbourne and pulling in to Cowra this evening I discovered a failing water pump. I am hoping repco has one tommorow. Failing that can anybody advise the best place to source one? If I can't find anyone willing or available to do the job tommorow ('tis the season) then I may also be looking to rent/beg/borrow a space of hardstand to work on. I have enough tools with me.
If anyone can offer assistance with any of the above I would appreciate it muchly. I am on 1873293040 reversed or rambling.prose@gmail dot com. I otherwise have only limited access to this forum as had to pay for a limited wifi connection on the iPod, but in a few hours my phone will only allow me read the forum.
Cheers
Dan

I've got a friend riding out to Lyndhurst tomorrow (43km from Cowra). If I can source a pump, do you want me to get it to him?

I'm also near Yass. No cover but could help if you can get this far.
Closest parts to us is Canberra so about an hour's drive.

I've got a call in to my local LR specialist to see if he has one that I can grab tonight. I've spoken to my mate who is happy to deliver it to Cowra if I can get it to him at Blackheath. If I can get a pump, I'll put it on a train to Blackheath (we are both signallers and I can give it to a guard or driver to carry to him).
If I can't source one tonight, if you want me to I'll ring Trivetts tomorrow morning. If they have one, I can collect it from them and put it on a train at Parramatta - or I'll ride out to Cowra with it.
You'd have it by the afternoon. If sourcing one is delayed, my mate is happy to defer his trip to Cowra to Tuesday (I can't go out Tuesday as I'm working).

I've just spoken to Dan. The RAC are paying for motel accommodation for a couple of days. The NRMA road service bloke doubts he'll get a pump in Cowra. Dan will let me know tomorrow if I need to get a pump for him.

I am gobsmacked. Again. Thanks to all repliers. It hasn't completely failed me but it has the death rattles and would unlikely make it much further.
A huge thanks again to Ron. The best I hoped for was some local knowledge of where best to source parts from and I would have to organise logistics from there. Ron has gone above and beyond in his efforts to get a pump to me! I am very grateful and can only try to thank you enough.
What I didn't mention was we are travelling with a 7 mth so of course free time is rare.
Cheers

I'm not doing too well at the moment with finding a pump. I assume you'll need a gasket as well.

I guess the question arises - do you want an OEM pump or after market?

After market is fine.
Fingers crossed for the local guys in the morning then.
Thanks

Scouse has asked:
Do you want me to arrange it & have it sent by Express Post (I think that's what they use).
That would get it to you by Tuesday, Dan. Otherwise I can ride down, pick it up, and post it.

Well, it's pouring here so it's not conducive to a ride to Cowra and back (520km). :( My mate has had to leave for Lyndhurst already. Things have changed. He's now out at Bathurst.
Scouse has checked and they don't have a pump in stock. They'd need to order it. It would arrive in Sydney tomorrow.
It's looking like an express post parcel from Karcraft in Sydney or British 4WD in Hobart may be the best option. Express Post to from Sydney to Cowra is one day, Hobart to Cowra is two days.
The good thing is that we know Quinton Hazell make the pumps so they may be available through Repco to special order.
I feel lousy in that, thus far, I haven't lived up to what I'd hoped to do.

I just had a call from Dan. Sorted. He's ordered one from someone (not Repco) and it's being shipped today. Now to find somewhere to do the job.
He did cause this himself.
During the trip he'd commented, in earshot of the Disco, that the trip had, thus far, been trouble-free. :p
Oh, he also said he might as well have been speaking Spanish at the Repco shop. :D

Thanks again for efforts to help us.*
As Ron has said a water pump is in an overnight bag. Found the golden arches. This morning I took a walk to the other end of town. All mechanics are busy or closed, however I have found a chap who, although overwhelmed with work, has kindly offered a space for me to DIY. I don't think that is an open offer to all comers but in these days of liability concerns it is a very hospitable thing to do so here is a plug:
*
Peter Bruem automotive
Young rd Cowra
0263414239.*
Google should take care of him for me now. *
As a side note the RACQ has been helpful with extra accomodation as well as entitlement to a hire car if need be. My dad, as a mechanic by trade, is one of those too proud to join, but I think even for a DIY person it is worthwhile.*
Cheers all
