Hi all,
time has come to trade up from my 1996 Tdi Disco. Had a look at a 2005 V8 HSE D3 today.... I've got some questions, hopefully you guys have the answers.
Do all HSE's have 3 rows of seats, this didn't? It had 2 rectangle floor covers in the rear section. The one nearest the rear door had tools under it . The one closest the 2nd row seats (I don't think it was supposed to be off ?) just showed the foot well.
I'm looking at on on line manual and notice that their are 2 typs of 2nd row seats. This appears to have the 7seat type as it has child restraints half way up the back, not at the bottom.
Also....
Other than drinking more fuel are the off road accessories the same for all the D3's
Mainly..
Bullbar
Snorkel ?
Dual Battery
Thanks in advance
Darren

Hi Darren,
I am pretty sure that the one 300+ here on AULRO has is exactly that configuration. It was a special order configuration that they tried out.
As far as I know all accessories are the same, only limit is that wheels have to be at least 18" as they have bigger brakes.

Hi Darren,
I to recently purchased a D3 V8 HSE...great vehicle. The info above is correct, apparently LR wanted to bring in the luxury version for less than $100K and removed a number of options to get under the price. The rear seats and the car information system being the ones I can tell. The irony is, the rear air conditioning has been left in!!
What I have discovered is the V8 variant does not accept the ARB bar and you have to purchase an alloy TJM unit.....I'm working on getting the ARB unit retro fitted as it can be done but not sanctioned by ARB. The extra 2 cylinders have pushed the A/C unit forward!
I have also found out the original front lower arm bushes degrade quickly on the early model and have purchased new ones from the UK for 1/3 of the price of the AU$ units.
Traxide do a no brainer duel battery kit that comes with mounting bracket and loom...this will be fitted to mine inteh next month or so.

Snorkel is the Safari unit as the LR original is not waterproof....I'm opting to leave this off as I think it looks to bulky.
regards
Col.

Good choice, I love the V8's, Im on my 3rd
Seven seats, The ones in the boot are better than the 2nd row in my opinion, they are however in my shed at the moment as the were removed to fit the drawer system
Like Colin said TJM make the bar that fits, I had ARB prove to me their bar didnt fit see http://www.aulro.com/afvb/d3-d4-zone/80709-arb-bullbar-v8.html?highlight=arb+bullbar+v8
Snorkel, as I understand its still Landrover Raised Air Intake for the V8
I have the Piranha duel battery system and works fine, not as idiot proof as the Traxide unit but I got it cost price so it wasnt an issue
Fuel! well Im glad I dont drive it every day but a my wife's diesel oil burning freelander is enough for me
Any other questions just give me a shout, I will try help

Hi Darren,
I have an '05 V8 D3 and have an ARB Bull Bar.
It was fitted over 6 months ago and has been fantastic. I also have snorkel and a UHF. As you have probably already read, the traxide duel battery is the best and easiest and you can fit a Safari snorkel no probs..
I have done over 20,000kms in mine and I LOVE IT!.

Hi Darren,
I also had a V8 D3 just like you described, but horrors of horror, it was stolen and burnt to a crisp:mad: A new diesel D4 is on order. I was absolutely delighted with this spec vehicle. The engine was as reliable as anything ever driven before, and without the rear seats, it's a lot lighter. The footwell for the rear seat is the perfect spot for a water tank btw. I had a winch ARB bar put on it after someone ran into it. There was an early problem with 2005 park brakes dragging and causing problems, but this would have to be fixed by now (or the park brake would be non-existent). It did burn fuel in town and on light, fluffy beaches but on he highway I'd regularly get 13l/100km if driven lightly at 105 km/hr. The tyres have to be at least 18" diameter. I had 19" MTRs (still have them, luckily they weren't on the D3 when stolen:D) which did surprisingly good, but they are expensive. If the specs seem to suit what you're wanting then I doubt you'd be disappointed.

hi everyone!
appologies for digging up an old thread but it pertains exactly to what im struggling with. like many others i own a D3 V8 HSE and love it! i really want to fit an ARB bar to it.
i have obviously gone to ARB and they dont fit it. many people obviously have ARB bars fitted to their v8 D3's so my question is
can someone please help and point me in the right direction to get someone to fit an ARB bar to my v8.
furthermore, i was of ther understanding that the safari snorkels didnt fit the v8s. where did those people with them get theirs fitted?
thanks a whole lot for your help!

Cupcakes,
My old D3 HSE V8 (5 seater) had an ARB bar put on it, so I'm unsure of the kerfuffel. It was put on by the smash repairer after someone ran into the front when it was parked, so maybe he did something magical to get it to work. Or maybe ARB has changed their bar design and it no longer works. You might want to source an independent bullbar installer and get him to source the ARB bar and install it - that's what I did at the time.
I ended up putting on a LRA raised air intake and making the in-fender pipe waterproof. It's a different configuration than the TDi V6, so I suspect that Safari figured that there was such a small market of V8's that it wasn't worth the cost of making a separate hose. One advantage to the LR raised air intake is the wonderfully sweet sound when flying up a sand dune in the V8!
Cheers,
