Hi everyone.

Im brand new to the forum and am seeking assistance in locating a relaible mechanic in melbourne, preferably northern suburbs.

I have a 2003 td5 and recently i was driving the car to work when it started running rough, like a petrol car when one of the plug leads is removed, Power was slightly down and whilst it still goes thought it best not to drive any longer until it had been seen to.

A mobile mechanic has looked at the car and diagnosed an injector pump problem but as TD5's do not have a sole injector pump rather each injector has a pump am seeking assistance here on the forum to help me locate a mechanic with an excellent reputation on Land Rovers to fix the car for me.

Obviosuly i do not want to venture to a land rover dealer given if it is an injector they want $2000 approx for each one and know i can get them cheaper elsewhere.

Any assistance anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Tim

Chances are you have the common oil in the harness problem. The injector harness will need replacement & the engine harness cleaned.

Have a look in the Good Oil section for more info.

Personally, I would suggest taking it to a dealer but I'm sure others would be able to recommend someone for you ;).

I agree with Scott. Remove the red plug from the ECU. Its likely to have oil in it. Requires cleaning of the main loom and connectors and the changing of the injector loom under the rocker cover

Does sound like oil in the harness.
No need to replace the whole harness, plenty of us have just replaced the injector harness(its inside the top of the engine). If you have got oil at the red ECU plug remove the orange seal on the plug and spray the connecter plug wit CRC CO Contact Cleaner. It will temporarilly improve the performance.
Once the Injector Harness is replaced(easy DIY job, less than $200) the oil will take some time to work its way out of the wiring loom,Metholated Spirits poured into the main loom via a funnel made from a 2lt coke bottle does help.ENSURE THE FUMES ARE WELL AND TRUELY GONE BEFORE STARTING!!!!!
GOODLUCK
Andrew

EDIT
Leave that orange seal out of the ECU connector until oil issue has stopped,MAKE SURE ITS FITTED IF YOU GO OFF-ROAD WHERE WADING/WATER WILL BE ENCOUNTERED!!!!

Same thing happened to me in Sydeny in 2005 - injector wiring harness soaks oil into the loom affecting insulation resistance. Replacement for me in ACT cost me about 300 beer coupons! No way out !
