A good D2 spare idea

For those lucky enough to own a Disco 2, and a V8 at that, it may be a good idea to carry a Crank Position sensor in your spares kit. Theoretically it is the only sensor that will immobilize your D2. It certainly stopped mine in it's tracks. of course we were far from home, but good ol RACQ Ultra care had the ol bus shipped to MR in Redcliff from Kingslcliff at no charge about 200k!

Symptoms were it ran fine all the way to Byron bay, but stopped after a short trip, then ran again after cooling down, then it ran for a while stopped soon after, then stayed stopped with no spark!

I treat it as a learning opportunity seeing as I made no attempts to run a normal diagnosis of checking for spark, fuel flow etc... instead, I spent two days looking at the LPG System without knowing there was no spark! Apparently a dead give away for Crank sensor failure on most ECU cars!

I will now carry a spare !

Between $140 and $180 pedro! I think you may also need to reset your computer and from what I could see, wierd shaped arms to actually get to it, it's next to the sump bolts on the passenger side of the engine block! Under the manifold.

I might just carry a spare, Mrs Apocalyopse would like that!

If the crank posn sensor is suspected, pour or spray some cold liquid over it to cool it down and see if the engine now runs - a standard test for Commodores that often seem to have such failures.

yeah the first few times it stopped --- but then after it cooled down uppity and away then..... finally! SIlence but for the high speed cranking of my flash new battery system! No Spark. No rumble. No Joy, No Spare!
