Air con problem with 95 4.6V8.

Air con started to stop working when outside temp got very high, 43o.
Got the systems regassed..
OK for a couple of weeks then started to turn off at high temps again.
Found the front of the compressor was covered in dye and that the 10mm bolts on the front of the compressor were loosish. Tightned them up and went to get it regassed again.
Air con man said that the compressor wasn't pumping at all, there was plenty of gas in the system, and that I would need a new one. He then removed all my gas as apparently he can't leave gas in a non operating system as it might leak and ruin the ozone layer.
Oh, forgot that environmental problem isn't a problem anymore!

I've found out about the compressor clutch problem, but after discussing with an ex-air con man I totally trust, he recons the compressor probably is toast, evidenced by the leak at the front.

So, unless anyone has any other suggestions, where can I get a compressor at a good price.

The compressor is a Sanden TRS105.

Just file the edge of the compressor clutch flange and see if that resolves the problem before you invest $$$.

if its leaking past the seal then the seal is shot the seal gets shot and its either a cause or an effect.

if its a cause then something has gotten past the seal destroyed that and taken out the bearing. therefore the compressor needs replacing or reconditioning the former is usually cheaper.

if its an effect then a bearing has failed and the shaft movement has taken out the seal.. end result as per above.

sooo if your compressor makes a high pitch wizzing noise then smoke comes outta it and it goes bang and now makes a loud rattling noise what does that mean?

p.s i might add it still works :D

Ahh, the good old TRS 105, they are a scroll compressor and prone to failure.
Check out Commodores and Falcons they have them as well. Wreckers can be a good cheap source. From memory VN, VP, VR, VS commodores and XF 'ifish fords.
