Our 1st child was born at 12.00 midnight on the 3rd.

As the title says she is a girl, so I'm thinking a career as ether a tennis pro or a golfing pro. I'm trying to find out the pros and cons of each profession?

Oh, and if there are any suggestions for names...... we have tried a few and they just don't stick.

Congrats mate!

Think it's about time for some toy Land Rovers.

Go with both Tennis and Golf, see which she enjoys most then stick with it. :D

Male or Female, nobody seems to be called 'Gunter' anymore. :D I think I'll change my name, too many Andrews here on the forum.... :D

Congratulations!

And as for what's next - just enjoy!

No rush for names - you've got a couple of months. If you need inspiration - there's a HUGE book of names available with every possible spelling and variation.

If you need inspiration - there's a HUGE book of names available with every possible spelling and variation.But consider that if you choose something spelt unusually, then she'll be forever telling people how it's spelt.
Just ask Mrs Scouse - Leslie (not that it's spelt strangely, it's just gender specific normally).

We had a few criteria when choosing Little Scouse's name:
Had to be short - his surname is long enough;
The name couldn't be shortened - his name what he's called by;
Had to be spelt normally;
Sort of sounded OK with an unusual (for here) surname.

Hence, Owen :).

the criteria my wife and i used was that the child had to live with the name for the rest of their life, so we went with a pretty common name to avoid them the teasing/spelling/ridicule with a more unusual moniker:evil:
enjoy parenthood it goes past very quickly:D

Thank you for the support.

Mum and Pirate (because she looks at me with one eye open) came home last night and all went well considering.

A question for the mums out there, bearing in mind all the pain and suffering that my wife has just been though, how long should I wait before I ask if I can have another one?

I'm just thinking ahead as it takes about a year for them to arrive:angel:

our naming regime was simple.

a couple of names out of the scifi shows we were watching during the pregnancy.. with about the same criteria as yours

but since no-ones bothered to answer the question.

Tennis is easily gotten into but has some potential long term health issues with muscule damage and early joint fatigue, unfortunately its also a looks based thing so an average player with good looks (thank you miss kornikova) can get paid more than a truely excellent player. The short terms downside is that she will be in the public eye a lot and practice sessions are short and frequent so she may be the attraction of a lot of sport jock types.

Golf is a longer term investment but with a higher dividend payout of the upper fractions of excellence. Its still a bit of a mans game with the prize pool for the male side being higher for the female equivelent in most games. ITs a low health risk and has the advantage for you in the short term of needing plenty of practice to become good at and lots of long walking. Its mainly low impact and the outfits are usually a lot less flattering than the sportsware of the tennis mob. Theres a lot less horny youg sports jocks following golf but a lot more doctors and other high finance high inflence people play.

I hope that this information helps with you guiding her career but why limit you options to tennis and golf, womens soccer and netball are currently giving good returns for the investment.

Assuming you havent already got a name heres our female top five from our sci-fi shortlist

kayly
erin
karly
sarah
eve

the best reason for a short name is that its easier to yell when you need to get their attention or if they are misbehaving.

If you ask now the answer will be - NEVER

ask in a month or so - 5 years

ask in several months to over a year - yes it is about time we had a another

mine are 3 years apart which I found great as the older was more independant....mind youu that was 22 years ago now:D
