Hi All,

Any advice on how much the first service should cost? I am based in Sydney. Any thoughts on dealer vs LR specialist?

Thanks in advance,
Ash

If it is your first service on a new vehicle I would go to the dealer. Dealers have access to the software updates earlier so I would do a dealer service for the main ones and for the oil change go independent.
Get some quotes and get a dealer to match. Try Alto you may get a free loaner but go to the one that is closest to you. Alto and Trivetts at Parramatta have have good reputations for knowing what they are doing.
If you have trouble with Alto let me know, they owe me. :D

Thanks CaverD3. I bought mine from Purnells but live in North West Sydney so they are a pain to get to. I will give Parramatta a call. Is pricing pretty standard across dealers?

Get quotes and play them against each other. Make sure they throw free loaner in too.;)

I would also suggest you think about providing your own oil and filters as based on my recent experience there appears to be a significant profit margin on these items.

The replacement oil for my last service cost something like $150 :o, oil and pollen filters at least 100% more than if I had sourced and provided for them to fit (the labour charge would not change).

But it was the oil that got me, that is some very expensive oil and I am sure you do not need to be a specifically trained LR mechanic to decant oil from a bottle.

There must be a fair chunk to be saved and there is plenty of info on this website and the DiscoUK website about service schedules etc so sure you can save some money quite easily if you want to do a bit of leg work.

As a guide the cost of my recent 24,000 km service was about $800 at Trivett Eastern Suburbs as a guide.

I did ring around prior and most dealers were at or around this quoted price, I did not get any costs from independent service providers but will next time.

Good luck

Full synthetic oil isn't cheap but I paid about $75 for mine when done by a local mechanic ( and ~$25 for the filter).

Fortunately when I bought my LR I managed to get it under corporate so my servicing under warranty is "FREE"

Makes me wonder why someone hasn't come up with a membership scheme to get corporate for its members when buying LR's ??
