I drove an 04 TD model around europe for a couple of weeks. Used 4-4.5L/100 consistently, even when doing 130+ on French and German Autobahns.

Great little car that had everything in just the right place.

Thanks, Yep, the tdi was the pick of the two. Though there was nothing wrong with the 1.6 petrol. Just the torque of the 1.9 diesel made it better. In fact you'd hardly know it was a diesel from inside.

I don't have one, but a mate of mine has. Nice car, actually. The Diesel is the one to go for, IMHO. Interesting to see that the latest Polo has about the dimensions of the very first Golf, which in turn has grown to the size of the original Passat. Just wondering when the Disco will have grown to match a 110.

Cheers

If your budget allows consider the Golf as in real life driving there is little difference in fuel economy between the 2.

Depending on dealer location of course also consider the Skoda alternative. Do they sell the Fabia in Australia? The Polo is based on the Skoda Fabia floor plan.

Boss of the VW group said at a confernce that if he was spending his own money on one of their products would be a Skoda as the difference between them all was now so small and they were just selling the badge.
