View Full Version : Good Exhaust Shop in Brisbane: 3 inch time for the Defender

Hi guys.

I feel the std exhaust on the defender is giving it a case of asthma. So its time for a 3" mandrel system.(no mufflers:D)

Can anyone recommend a good exhaust shop in Brisbane that does not charge the earth.

Also if anyone has a similar setup how much did it cost you.?

The tray has been lifted 4" to fit the raised shock mounts. So the exhaust would be very straight because it would run between the chassis and the tray.

Thanks Ben......

You could try removing just the centre muffler first. It's a cheap option and adds surprisingly little to the noise.

If you go ahead with the upgrade I'll be interested to hear how you go with it. :)

I'm really chasing Hp....

The std exhaust is ****ed because it was a surf life saving vehicle for 5 years it is very rusty so not worth spending money on it.

The exhaust is the only rusty part left on it (New bulk head etc....)

I used to get all my exhaust work done at right price exhausts at slacks creek. Was a few years ago now, but their prices were good.

There is a mob at beaudesert which do mandrel bent exhausts in one piece (not using weld-in sections like most others). They are $$$ though.

I've been told that Cookies Custom Pipes & Exhausts, 24 Gibbs St, Wynnum,
(3393 3774) do good work. I haven't had a chance to use them yet, but might be looking at getting pipes made to re-route my intercooler, run a snorkel & so on.

A mate of mine uses Custom Exhaust Systems at Creastmead, but they are expensive...but you do get mandral bends, HPC coating and a before and after dyno readout.

Roothy from 4wdAction is always going on about Cookies at Wynnum...I live not far from them so I should go and check them out.

I have always used The Muffler Shop which is now at Trade Street Cleveland, but he does not do mandral bends.

I think the pipe currently on my 130 is a 2 & 3/4 inch. There is a muffler at the back which I want to remove plus the pipe is currently going under the A arm which I want to change to going above the A Arm.

Hopefully get this done in the next couple of months.

Cheers
Andrew

Aren't the headers only 2 1/2 " ?

If thats the case why would there be any advantage in going withan exhaust system any bigger ?

I hope you haven;t got doof doof big pipe fast four WRX disease !

Hi all, I have just had the complete Disco system($165 for 2 1/4" pipes) done by men at work at capalaba, he was really cheap, painted the entire system to prevent rust and only took about an hour, he is by far the cheapest I have used, Gonzo's in Wynnum do good work, but are pricey, I think he mainly does custom work, but from experience men at work are the go, he's on new cleveland rd Capalaba, 3823 1955, hope it helps

I second that recommendation..... except that I realise it was me that recommended them to Dave in the first place.

They replaced a large part of the system on our Bash car last year and did a great job and were very kind to us.

The workshop looks more like an old school type workshop where they actually do fabricate their own stuff ( rather than the ones where you can't get anything other than the standard bolt on pieces).

Anyone ?

If the port on the turbo outlet is 2 1/2 inch you will gain nothing from a bigger system, exhaust systems work by increasing the velocity of the gas stream so bigger could actually be worse and give less torque. Pat

One of the vest shops in Brisbane is:
Fat Pipes Custom Exhausts
u10/1191 Anzac Ave
Kallangur QLD 4503
(07) 3285 7417
He does great custom jobs, one of my customers drove from Towoomba and called me to say he would have driven twice the distance it was worth it. I know I am going to him to have mine moded sometime in the near future.

Cheers,
