View Full Version : Water pump leaking from this hole? Is it stuffed?

It "appears" my RRC water pump could be leaking from a small hole at the front of the pump, (see pic) its hard to tell but it looks like it is.

The question is, is the pump stuffed or can I rebuild it? I'm guessing its some seal or other.

Thing is I have a spare pump but its been lying around for a while and its from an older RRC than mine so even if it doesn't leak straight away it might soon afterwards, might it be worth me rebuilding it first if its possible?

BTW 1981 RRC

mine was leaking from the same spot after sitting dry for a few months, it got worse over a couple of days and i have since replaced the pump, apparantly it is a 'tell tale' hole for when the ceramic seal inside has packed it in

Jazza1 is correct, most water pumps have this hole to let you know when the seal is shagged and its time for a new one. You can replace the bearing/seal/shaft in them but its not an easy task.

thanks for the replies.
I'll jut put the spare one on and see how long it lasts :/

I found new ones on ebay for $150 which is pretty good really but I've kept the spare for about a year so time to see if it was worth keeping lol
