Hi Guys,
Just wondering if anyone out there knows if MaxiDrive portal axles can be made road legal ? I'm keen on a 99 Disco 3.9 v8 running portals and diff locks thats for sale unregistered. Any info would be much appreciated!

In which State are you located?
There is/was one around here that is/was registered.

I'm in Cental Queensland, The vehicle is from Sydney but evidently been sitting in a shed here for a while unregistered. It's done some pretty tough work, body dents, micky claws chipped etc but in my book this would be the ultimate LR configuration if road legal. Looks just like the pics you posted !

Hmm, I wonder if it is? This one was from Kingswood in NSW (near Penrith). I know where the bloke lived. I could drive past to see if it's still there.

I know of a 110 with Volvo portals and Q78 Swampers that is fully engineered, registered and road legal here in Victoria.
I would talk to an approved engineer in QLD and get an opinion.

Thanks Ron, would be very interesting to know, wonder how different the rules are between NSW & Qld with respect to modifications like this.

Thanks Tony, I've heard the volvo transplants are good. The maxidrives were obviously designed for landrover so maybe certification won't be a problem? I'll take your advice and try find and engineer to talk to ........ don't think there is one round here though :(

Check the modifications section of the Queensland Transport web site. If at all possible, it will need to have a report from an authorised person, and maybe an inspection by QT staff. Modifications section direct line is 07-3253-4851. They do not like radical modifications to suspension and steering.

doable and legal providing you get it engineered.
its classed as a suspension/driveline modification.
