In my current job I have done a few 4.5 week stints. It is supposed to be three weeks on and one week off, but that rarely happens.

Hi Mick ;

The longest I've ever worked was 10 days straight , and I wanted to keep going by my Employer would not Allow me to work more , for reasons of "Duty of Care".

So, does this thread include wives & mothers...and their rare days off;);)

Seriously though, Erich wouldn't say so, but he and Andy worked for 2 months pretty well all day, every day getting that 130 ready. Yes, they were working at home, but started very early and sometimes didn't knock off till 10-11pm. And believe me, they worked their butts off!

Then again, they probably wouldn't have wanted it any other way. Plus they LOVED every minute:D

Just as an addition to my above post.....

Reckon Ean Austral might add to this.... I believe he spends months away from home without a break when the prawns are running.

(Finished the last of those prawns the other night Ean...Thanks, they were lovely!)

When I worked inland I used to work 13 day fortnights, at least 3 12hrs shifts per fortnight.

In the late 90's I did casual work one summer to earn travelling cash, 0600hrs - 1400hrs day work one place doing general processing, then 1600hrs - 0000hrs unloading semi's, by hand. Did that for 6 days a week, 6 weeks straight. Travelling got postponed so I bought me a Hemi to play with.;)

Gday Erich,
Glad the prawns were still as enjoyable..We work on a time system not a catch system..
Our seasons are set by Fisheries and last year we did 2 seasons.7 april-21th june.then 25 july-5th dec..During those dates we are at sea the whole time and we work every day, unless we have a breakdown and have to return to a port for repairs.

There are area's where we can only work night time hours 6pm-8am and also areas where we can work day and night.

I think last year would be one of the longest where we have worked everyday as we had no breakdowns and we used the mothership to unload and refuel so we did work every night of the 2nd season. It was 134 days straight , plus 4 days travelling to and from the fishing grounds..

People think those pussy's on deadliest catch do it hard doing 8 days straight....But they get to make up for there reputation working that cold icy water..

Cheers Ean

when I was doing 2 full time jobs, a part time job and 2 casuals at once it was something in the order of 2 years straight its a very fast way to make a lot of time vanish.

since then probabley a 6 month stint.

Longest day so far is 34 hours. Did 12 hours around Brissie then did a job up to Blackwater and back. My sinus problem needed a fair bit of medication for that one.

Even though the money was good I wouldn't do it again.

21 days straight of 14 hour days, then having to go home, cook and do the washing.....

time-wise, 7 days of 16hrs/day, halfway through the 8th day someone twigged that my tradie and i had been on site for more than 5 days without a break..... we got turfed off site 6 hours from the end of an "urgent" job that management had been hounding us about, got told not to return to site for 48 hours..... that was mid afternoon on the thursday, we turned up again mid morning on the monday.....

Today is my 4th day off since the start of December. Xmas day, boxing day, Sunday and today. The building industry is rather busy in Melbourne, at least working for the people I do. On the days off I get to catch up on book work but I dont really count that as working as it is just sitting in a chair in the office.

In Austria, was born there and went back in 1980, finished my apprenticeship, then had to do National Service. I could have done it part time but wanted to get back to Australia.

When we got back I joined the Reserves as a Fitter/Armourer.
Was more like a holiday camp than Army .. lol
But I enjoyed my time with them.
