Hello guys,

I am about to order a new fuel pump for my D2 V8 2001 with 140t km, but first I want to make sure that the following issues are signs of a dying fuel pump:

1) Noise - sometime, I can hear whining noise after switching off the engine. This noise is related to pressure in the fuel tank - after releasing the fuel closure the noise disappears.
2) Increased consumption - the Disco takes around 15% more fuel than usually
3) Loss of power - I have feeling that the car lost a bit of power. Especially noticable when driving up a long hill - I have to change the gear where it was not necessary before

Please could you let me know if the fuel pump is the way to go? Or would you suggest something else to check first? Not sure where to start at the moment... MAF was changed recently, checked also using testbook. No codes registered.

Has anyone of you changed the fuel pump yourself? Is there anything tricky except of removing the locking ring (I found couple of posts on this already)? Should I get a new locking ring as well or reuse the old one?

Thank you very much for your help!!!
Cheers
Jiri

doesnt really sound like a pump issue,,

the noise may be the overpressure vent releasing.

if your having surging and missing that would be more related to the fuel pump..

Its possable that youe got to put the boot in harder to make up for the loss of pressure in the fuel rail but youd have the other signs of lean running as well.

the easy way to check is to pull the delivery line from the pump to the filter and check the pressure then free flow volume from there.
