Well we went to Kalbarri for a week and i was looking forward to the first big drive in the defender! Fantastic place beautiful place too....
Now the sad bit... we saw about 10-12 defenders and a few disco's. i made sure i waved to all the defenders.. i got 2 waves back :( i got a wave from a disco too... and 2 waves from cruiser utes!
so all you defender owners travelling... dont forget to give us a wave!
i was wondering if it was because we were blue.... rather than the standard white.... :p
Thanks
Steve

thanks guys...
i had never seen that colour... but the disco's were available in that colour...
i'd love to know the history on the car... as i know a bit about its previous owners... but i havent seen an aussie car that has been waxoyled underneath, so im beginning to wonder if its a uk import... if so... where do i start to find out?
is it really that rare a colour?
by the way its a bitch to clean as the water marks are highly visible! :D

Nice rig. How do you find the sun visor?
There's a Td5 Defender up here that's the same colour.
Loved Kalbarri when we were there in September.

They didn't wave because your rig is way too clean.
Could have been blinded by the glare.
I just come back from a trip and out of say 10 Landy sightings, 2 waved.
That was dismal, my wife kept a tally and paid me out about my pathetic landy wave and how its old fashioned.
I can't help it, my hand just goes up.
Might have to change my ways though.
Its a tad embarressing.
Very nice looking rig. Now go and get it dirty. Watch everyone wave than.

Thanks :) i like to make an effort with the pics!

trust me it wasnt clean... everything you touched made you red.... before we went up tho i gave it a good coat of wax which seemed to make sure the dry dust didnt hold too well... it looks far cleaner in the pic!

Glad im not the only one of this colour! The sun visor doesnt bother me apart from heading into a strong wind when it flaps a bit... oh and the fixing screws rub against the door..

ta... i may well do that!

He he ... so im not the only dissapointed one then! honestly it was dirty... and the glare wasnt that bad :) dont know why it came out so shiny on the pic... i gave it a wash down when we got home and it turned the little road we live on an orange colour... so there was plenty of dust hanging on!
the wave wasnt automatic for me... but its now getting that way... nice when you get a wave back tho!
Thanks

Thanks Andy... yes it was well worth the look and you cost me a lot of $$$$ :D oh well.. you cant take it with you! fishing trip not forgotten!

Thanks!
As quite a few people have asked.. the sunvisor is from a company called hy-way sunvisors link to the catalogue following http://www.hyway.com.au/catalogue/stone_guards.pdf
i didnt buy the sunvisor it was already attached.
this one looks fairly old and looks like its been taken off something else, as its green on the underside (not that you can see it to notice)
I have never driven a defender without one.. so i cant tell you what difference it makes, but it doesnt really impact visibility, it doesn make the car harder to clean, and it does flap a bit into wind or when you get hit by a road train wake... cant decide if i like it aesthetically yet tho!
Thanks

Mate when I saw it I almost tried to do a swap+$$$$$ for BlackBetty but couldnt gaurantee BlackBetty was up to the swap.
Sad thing is,John bought an Exploder after selling the Defender, and it looks to be a lemon!!!

hehe brad and his beady eyes eh!
i saw the exploder that he bought... didnt look too bad except the huge alloys.. he seemed happy cause it was bit more comfy for his older bones... i hope its not as bad as a lemon... as i felt bad enough for taking the defender off his hands.
think we cheered him up tho... we sent him an xmas card with a few bits that we found in the car.. including some paper money, surprised him i think! and we got a very nice letter back from them. Fantastic people... shame the younger generation cant learn to be like them.... (wow did i really say that? i must be getting old!)
Thanks

That is one fantastic looking car! I love the look of Defenders and I love that colour! A couple of questions:
Can I ask about this wax? What kind of wax do you use on it? It just looks magnificent!
And did you say it has "waxoyled" underneath? Would this be helpful to a car you might take off road at the beaches or would you only have it done because of the salt they use on ice overseas?
If useful for us, can you get it done in Australia?

All it is is mothers carnuba wax in a round tin. you use a damp applicator apply it then buff it off... i like the stuff that requires a damp cloth as its easier to do after washing. in that picture it really was dusty... honestly!
As for the Waxoyl its something used heavily in the UK to prevent rust on the chassis and under side. i imagine it could help on the beach runs... except things would stick to it and im not sure how it would handle the temps. the whole of the underside of the chassis / body is covered in something similar tho... dont know what tho... its just very sticky.. i dont think that waxoyl is meant to be sticky tho....
Thanks

EH? explain as im a dumb pom :D
Steve, an EH is a classic Aussie car from the 1960s that could be purchased with a sunvisor, like many others of the '60s.
Below is a 1964 Holden EH with sunvisor, grabbed from the web.

now im a not so dumb pom! i did guess it would be something like that...
Still i guess the sunvisor works ok on the defender as it has similar vintage roots :)
I still dont know whether i like it or not... but its on there... so i guess it will stay!
Thanks
