View Full Version : So what new vehicles are fitted with a misfueling device?

Been reading the threads about the misfueling device on the D4's and it got me wondering...

What other Land Rover vehicles now have it fitted?

Surely it's not on the 2010 Defenders:eek:

Do Toyota fit these to the new Prado and 200 series?

What of the few diesel cars on the market here in Australia?

I suppose the 3.0L Patrol has one but its built in to the engine:angel:

new cars have a flap that stops you from putting the wrong nozzle into the filler so you cant put unleaded in a diesel engine.

i thought they were just narrower nozzles so you can't use the hi-flow truck diesel pumps?

nope because diesel also comes in the narrow nozzle format.

I think from what I read somewhere that theres 2 versions of it.

1 is a simple mechanical flap with a pair of releases that requires you use the larger diesel nozzle and the other his a stupidly sophisticated system that closes the filler neck, tests the fuel as it enters the neck and if its not near enough to the right stuff remains closed.

My understanding is they are only mechanical.

Like this:
Stop Diesel Misfuelling | Diesel Misfuelling Prevention Device (http://www.stopdieselmisfuelling.co.uk/)
The Fuel Angel - The Misfuelling Prevention Device (http://www.misfuellingprevention.co.uk/)

Someone with a D4 may be able to post up a picture of there's too.

The idea is sound although I must admit but it could be very problematic, hell its hard enough finding the diesel pump at some city servo's.

I get the impression only the D4 has one fitted. What of the RR, RRS, FL2 and of course the Defender?

What of other marques?

You can back it in that LR will have used the later here. And one day it will malfunction and say that the diesel you are putting in is the wrong fuel and wont allow anything in, and of course this will happen on the canning stock route.

So something similar to the fuel filler all unleaded fueled cars came out with when they appeared around '87,so you couldn't get a super nozzle in to fill them up?

Apparently missfueling is a very common problem in Europe....

I found the other thread: http://www.aulro.com/afvb/d3-d4-zone/96072-im-over-misfuelling-device.html

I am not sure how Graeme can rill up with a high-flow nozzle at all if the MFD is one where the (small) diesel nozzle works like a "key" to open the filler.

Surely a drill bit or hole saw slightly larger than a high-flow nozzle would do the trick ;) :D It's only a D4 after all... :Rolling:

In Australia misfiring is far more common mainly with commodores.:wasntme::lol2::lol2::lol2:

yes but in reverse.

not having played with the D4 Im not sure how its setup but would tip that its the special latch that needs the highflow nozzle size trick.

I vaguely recall the more complicated on being on some jap cars that have well wrung engines that need the higher octane fuels.
