Hi everyone, just thought I would pass on my experiences trying to get a bullbar for my D2a.

We have recently moved up to Bendigo from Melbourne, and the missus gave me the green light to get a bar for the Disco. I thought I would get the TJM one as I liked the looks slightly better. Phoned the local TJM dealer up here, and it turns out that they have just been discontinued!!!! I couldn't believe it. I tried a couple of other dealers, but seems no one had one left in stock, so I have ended up going with ARB. Can't wait; should have it by beginning of Feb....
Cheers and Happy New Year, Chris.

Guessing that TJM figure that with the D3 & D4 now, they arn't going to sell many for the D2. :o

I love the look of the Sahara bars...

But recent experience tells me I cant have one as the replacement bar :(

All impacts I've had with road life have been on the edge / corner..

Even the latest, centralised hit would have destroyed both headlights if it hadent been for the hoops of the ARBs conventional bar:eek:

ARB is probably the best bar anyway.

I agree with slunnie, i have tjm at the moment but if a had the coin there would be an arb on straight away, have had to straighten mine several time after minor confrontations with obstacles.

I was only very slightly more in favour of the TJM, mainly on looks really. I know the ARB is probably the better product, so not really all that disappointed....at least ARB still makes good gear for the "older" models!

I'm getting the Deluxe Winch Bar as I also figured I might need the protection of the wings....

YUM YUM!!!

Is that the standard colour they come in ? I thought they were a "light grey" ?

We cannot buy either over here now due to stupid rules, We can buy the Sahara only, but they take of the chrome tube and bin it when it gets to the UK........(F****rs) so Im currently in the process of importing one from the states, goona be pricey, but worth it imo!!.

Im was going to go for the deluxe one , but it has no front recovery points on it where as the pre-facelift does (dunno why, I E-mailed ARB to ask, but got no reply :( ), but the deluxe has the fogs which is nice..........will forfeit those for the moment.....

Red Baron,

Give Triumph Rover Spares in Adelaide a call. They are currently advertising a used TJM bar and sometimes have ARB bars in stock.

I would not have another TJM bar. The paint on the winch cradle and the bottom of the bar is not good enough it comes off in large chunks with rust underneath.

Would go the ARB next time.

Cheers

This is the standard colour. For an extra few hundred bucks ARB will colour match to your car.

I asked ARB about the missing recovery points and was informed that they had to remove them from this bar for the 2a because of airbag sensor requirements.

Got my new bar a couple of days ago. Thought I would have to wait until Feb. for it but they must have been able to grab one of the ones in the warehouse.... Its fitted up; looks good, now I just need to persuade SWMBO that it needs a winch to complement it....;)

Theres not alot on the aus market that appeals to me for a front bar on the d2. Im a fan of alot of the rovertym stuff but im doubtful of their ADR approval. I took one slightly bent TJM bar n changed it more to my liking.

Was in TJM in Seven Hills (Sydney) on Saturday and while there are nne in stock at the moment they should be in sometime in March.

In regards to the sahara bars is there any reason they won't fit a S2 disco. The listing states S2a only but much prefer the look. Advice.

I have been through this with ARB. The Sahara Bar will fit with a little bit of trimming to the underside of light and grill surrounds, but ARB class the D2a as a different model and therefore have not tested on an earlier D2.

Its all something about the legality side of it apparently.

Just a bit of info from a tjm owner, you may want to put some form of strengthening in the wings (if you havent already), with the top bars removed i suspect that the strength would be reduced some what and the tjm i have found isnt to strong in standard form.

Otherwise, the bar looks great and is tempting me.

yes that thought has crossed my mind and also the the loss of strength from removing the lower skirt may cause some issues BUT i picked it up cheap as chips half pranged so decided that theres no big loss. Just needed something to mount my spotties on really :P and the factory bar was in a bad way so here we are! TJM make a bar similar to my cut up one for jeeps etc so i dont see why they havent done one for the disco...

For those looking I was in ARB Richmond today, and the have a D2 bar (winch) in the showroom for sale. It's the standard type ARB bar, but also has the holes in it for the LR round foglights from the D2a. Apparently it's an ex showroom one, so still brand new, David said he would do a deal on it.

Only downside is it's Bright orange;)!!! Can always be sprayed again I suppose...
