Folks - just thought I'd share this with other Puma owners.... Long story short - Drove to Katoomba at Christmas and whilst there I noticed some transmission slop that wasn't happening before along with a very faint noise - had a gander and found the prop shaft bolts going into Hand brake drum loose. Nipped up 2 of them - the others just spun - warranty job methinks; off to Austral motors on my return...

Dealer rings today - changed over the nuts - all good now, but they could hear the slight noise too. Reckon it is the bearing in the transfer case. Getting new transfer case put in under warranty. And I thought Grover was all sorted now. :(

So - if you hear anything, feel anything, even suspect anything - have a good look. My bearing would have likely lasted till well after warranty expires - but would have cost a bomb eventually.

Hats off to Austral on this issue, I say. :clap2:

My transfer case bearing has already **** itself too.. Only 4k on the clock..
New part is ordered and should arrive next tuesday all going well.......A bit nervous seen as we are around 3 weeks out from doing our trip up north!!
But on the bright side, I'm glad it's gone now and not 4k into our trip!!:o

Input seal on my transfer case has been weeping for almost 12 months. Used about 250mL of Syntra in 6 months.

Was supposed to be fixed in Darwin the other week, but that's another saga. Anyway parts should be in Gove soon so I can get it done in town.

What is a stronger brand new transfer case that can be used instead of the ome model after warranty runs out ?
