Engine Saver or other

Gday everyone just need a little input.Only had the Defender a little while (110 ,300 Tdi) replaced the expansion tank and cap and coolant .This started me thinking about buying the engine saver mentioned in the forum and several threads,there is another type I've seen on Ebay that gives engine temp that they claim is more useful as it can give a heating up indication that can come from other problems as well as coolant loss .Pros and cons?all input gratefully received.

On my 300Tdi Defender, have a temperature sensitive switch on the cylinder head that opens at 105 degrees. The wire that goes to the fuel solenoid on the injector pump goes through it. Motor stops if temperature gets to 105 degrees -well before overheating damage occurs regardless of reason. Good idea to have a manual override - a push button that has to be held down for motor to run is simple and relatively idiot proof so motor can be run for a short time, eg to drive off the carriageway to park.

Note this protection setup is more fail safe than some. eg if wire falls off or crook connection, motor stops. With some systems, if something does not work properly it can mean no protection.

I have a Engine saver it has served on a 300 Tdi and now my Td5

Im very happy with it mainly the ease of fitting and the price of course plus it is made in Australia by someone from the forum which you get a discount on , if your a member ;)

Depending on what you want to achieve. The Madman EMS will fit into the "clock" position of the fender dash with some dremel work.

With appropriate sensors you can then monitor Coolant Temp, Coolant level with alarm, EGT, Oil pressure, Boost Pressure, Voltage... all with just one gauge.

Kinda neat.
