My 99MY Defender TD5 Extreme has just started having the TC light stay on from turn on. At first it did go off eventually but now stays on all the time.

I drove it over a pile of gravel the other day, just before the problem started so am wondering if a sensor or sensor wire is the cause? Any suggestions on tracking down the fault?

Thanks,

Howard

usually its a harness or sensor problem but you should also have the ABS light come on

Might be completely different, but on the Rangies the abs sensors on the hubs slide out of place a little. A bit of a push and they go back to where they should be and everything works fine again.

Thanks guys. Of course Black Knight I should have thought of that as the TC obviously uses the ABS. Well the ABS light does not come on so I guess it is not a sensor. If I unplug the ABS ECU the light goes off (naturally).

I have hit the ABS ECU plugs and sockets with contact cleaner but that did not make any difference and I can't see any damage to the wiring at that point. Any ideas on cause and solution? Could it be that the diagnostic needs to be reset?

It is looking like a trip to the Land Rover dealer and I hate the dollars that can cost...

The TC light might be coming on because it thinks the TC is enabled. So it may not be a "fault" rather a wiring issue. TC can also be disabled in the ECU using diagnostics.

The Wabco-D unit illuminates the ABS warning light by removing the voltage supply from it. I don't know if this is the same for the TC light. But if it is then a wiring fault may well be the cause.

TC is pin 13 on connector two of the Wabco-D.

One other thought. There's a procedure in the owner's handbook for disabling TC on starting. You have to depress the brakes 10 times in 10 seconds or something like that. It could be you have a faulty brake peddle switch.
