View Full Version : Very disappointed in 2005 Defender Reliability

After 5 years, and 90,000k's, SA trips, Cape York, and just this week in the Victorian High country, ending with a week in Bright, I had two different people warn me of a dangerous thing about my Defender. Much to my utter disappointment on shoddy construction, workmanship, and parts, I had to replace my Left Rear Brake Light Bulb. It wasn't even 5 years old!!! I think I'll have to trade it in on a Jap model. According to the other forums around, they never have these quality control problems! I'm now worried, what next, a turn indicator? A Headlight? My god where will it end?:o

No end to worries now!

tut tut a brake light bulb :no2: I would have expected that to last at least 600,00000k these land rovers are becoming so wildly unreliable. I would get a trade in while the car is still worth something or at least before the other one blows

wow... you got lucky with only a brake light.....

I swear every time someone crumpled into the front end of big red or I plowed a roo with the lights on Id have to replace the bulbs and sometimes the lensesin the bull bar sometimes as often as once every 6 months I mean what are they making these things out of? Plastic?

Dont get me started on the fuses that supply the power to the auxilary socket in the back or the trailer. Every time the battery in the trailer went flat as soon as Id start up itd let go.

and the fuel Oh my GOD the fuel. Every other week Id have to put 60l or so in. Better than my mates toyota though hed do 120l in the same time frame. I just wish we had the bigger tanks so we didn't have to refill as often.

You're SOO right:mad:

I'm sick of all the reliability issues with these!!! Just last week I replaced 2 globes in 2 seperate vehicles:o

I Have even stocked new headlamps for these, but never sold one:mad: ended up fitting them to My car instead. What a waste:p

I couldn't believe it, the factory air in my tyres has slowly been letting me down. They must use some cheap 'thin' air because I swear it escapes at the rate of a psi every two months.

Ridiculous cost cutting measures. It happened as soon as Tata took over:twisted:

(Sure, my Landy was built 47 years ago, on its umpteenth set of tyres and rims...that has nothing to do with it)

Oh well, my TOYOTA gets 10 years and 1 000 000 K's out of brakelight globes.
Pommy Rubbish, trade it in on a real 4WD why don't ya!

A $1.95:eek:...I still see that landrover prices are still over inflated, you should of imported one from the UK the pound is down you would have got a good price.

However if you had bought a real 4wd it would have never of blown and if it did it would have only cost 2c and someone would of run out the shop kissed your feet and fitted it for you;)

Ha! You must have a 110 or Defender then, series only have 3 of them, and they don't blow anyway, just corrode untill they don't connect anymore:p

Actually just have a 110 V8 in at the moment that had a minor engine compartment firewall harness loss of smoke.... Not 1 fuse blew:p

if we're going to start counting older vehicle faults you should see the oil thats in the air filter of my series... Every time i check it theres at least a liter if not more in there.

Well, Mudnut, had you bought a P38A, you wouldn't have these reliability issues!

And the cost of parts!! I backed into a tree and broke a rear indicator lens. I could only buy the whole lamp, and it cost $38!!!!!!!!!!!:(

Jeez!!!!

Oh come now, we all know Toyota globes last 5million kms. Thats why we kept at least a box of them in my draw at Ravey for the Toyotas (2) we used.:p
