Engine immobilizers what a farce

My sister was approached whilst walking along the foreshore by a young driver that had an engine immobiliser fitted for boozing. He asked if my sister could blow in to the device as he and his girlfriend had a couple of beers.
Seems that if a car can be started by any sober person blowing into it then it is a farce because it doesn't stop the offender until they are caught again.
It peevs me when offenders pay a beak to plead hard ship in court, if they weren't able to drive for work purposes and then after being granted on condition. They abuse the trust of society again.:(

I guess theres always around anything. In this case, its up to the sober person to say NO. Imagine if you blew into the device, they took off and killed someone on the roads... they now have your DNA on the device and you may also be charged!

As an ex-JP, I can say that JPs don't sign the Stat Dec to say the story is true. All they are doing is witnessing the signature. In fact, they are not supposed to read the documents being signed.

As p38arover said the JP witness that you did sign the document, it is all down to you. If you have gone to the effort of finding a JP to witness you commit fruad then it becomes a bit more difficult to say you though it didn't matter that you told the truth or not.

My limited understanding of the ignition lock devices are that they are a bit smarter than has been suggested. They log all starts and require the device to be blown into multiple times on an increasing duration. so if somone sober blows into the device it may only run for 5 minutes before requiring another test, then it may run for half an hour etc. It is also capable of recording if an attempt to drive whilst over the limit.

That would be dangerous, imagine a drunk doing that in traffic then all of a sudden the car stops because they blew.

The car doesn't stop dead in the road. It logs the fact that they were either over the limit, or didn't blow into the device, then triggers the horn and flashes the lights, much the same as a car alarm, until the driver pulls over.

took me <15 minutes to remove the government mandated (WA laws) immobiliser that was fitted to one vehicle i had to work on, another 15 minutes to make it all look neat and put everything back so you'd never know......

how the **** would an alcohol interlock stop me?
