Hi all! (Discovery Series2 TD5)Does anyone know if you can change the clutch/pully assembly on the air cond compressor? (Its rattling away and clunks when you turn the engine off ) or is it a complete new compressor? Thanks.

I once looked into it as I thought mine was faulty, I seem to remember a site in the USA selling them? Mine only rattled when I turned on the aircon but on further examination it was the harmonic balancer bumping against the engine block when under the extra load... Worth a look:)

Mine sqawks when I shut it down, despite new alternator/belt/tensioner.
I suspect its the idler BELOW the aircon unit.Have heard they too can be truoblesome.

I have just had this done. $500 to replace A/C compressor bearing, reciever-drier and regas/leak test system. This was at a reputable, national car A/C specialist, they had the vehicle for one day. The compressor is a Denso unit and parts should be readily available at most A/C repair shops.
I got to this point after chasing a noise from the front of engine which got worse with A/C running. Major source was harmonic balancer (replaced), belt tensioner and belt (replaced) and viscous-fan bearing (replaced). Balancer noise was loudest, followed by fan bearing. These things are relatively easy to source and simple to fix. There is lots of info on this forum regarding these repairs, (thanks to all contributors for their expertise).

Regards, Jason.

Thanks to all replies and everyone's help. Turns out that it is the harmonic balancer. Not cheap to buy but easy to fix. Thanks again
